Illinois Republicans Draw Their Own Damn Map

Illinois' House GOPs file their Fair Congressional Map in federal court and seek preliminary injunction preventing election activities under the Democratic congressional district re-map.

Republicans from an Illinois congressional delegation filed their own U.S. congressional district map in federal court last week, Rick Pearson reported in the Chicago Tribune’s "Clout Street."

GOP delegates claim that the state’s Democrats rigged the congressional district re-map to offset Republican house gains in the mid-term elections. Ten of the state’s 11 GOP members of Congress call the Democrat-drawn map “contorted” and “gerrymandered,” saying it disregards the will of Illinois voters.

The Fair Congressional Map is respectful of both “constitutional and democratic principles,” Illinois congressional Republicans said in a press statement.

Republicans are also seeking a preliminary court injunction preventing any election activities from taking place under the Democratic re-map.

The GOP version looks more like what I think our forefathers had in mind when they established this form of government.

When looking at the comparison of the two maps, it's pretty obvious that the Democrats' Proposal map is drawn with political manipulation in mind. I appreciate the use of natural or historical (see JR's comment) boundaries used in the Fair Congressional map.
Just curious -- why the use of "Damn" in the headline?

Bob
It's obvious that the Illinois Democratic version is a gerrymandered map to suit their needs for the next decade rather than representing the voting records of the population ! I hope the Republican map can get some respect, approval, & authority from the courts but I doubt it.

Well....yeah, each party is going to draw the maps to their advantage. I grew up at 83rd and Kilpatrick, my mom was living there when they redrew wards some 15-20 years ago, and rumor has it that, for whatever political reason, the 23 Ward guys had the 13th and 18th redrawn so that her (north) side of the street went to the 13th and the south side was put in 18. I can't remember what happened to motivate that draw-up, only that it was purely political. The Illinois powers-that-be are just taking advantage of the opportunity to get their way.

On either map where is the Village of Oak Lawn located?

Actually, this version looks like it incorporates reasonable geographical boundaries. It appears to keep local entities as intact as possible, thus providing for appropriate representation of community interests. Which means it probably has no change in hell of being adopted.

I'm going to look for a better map view for you.

Maureen,
If you click on the maps or zoom in (make portions larger) you will see congressional district 3 (Lipinski's district) on both maps. I'm going to continue looking for a better map view.

Re:Phinnigin. I agree!! Most establishments do not have hot water in the restrooms!!! However, whyRead More can't restaurants install hand sanitizer behind the counter? The Popeye's in Burbank has a hand sanitizer installed behind the counter, but honestly, the employees hardly ever use it, which is why, after a horrible experience at that location last July, I have not patronized ANY Popeye's since!!!
