New Oak Lawn Trustees Seated on Village Board

Families and supporters pack Oak Lawn Village Hall to watch the changing of the guard.

New trustees were seated after being administered their oaths of office by fellow Oak Lawn resident and Cook County Judge Denise K. Filan.

Jane Quinlan held her mother's hand as she was sworn into her third term as the village clerk.

During one of the oaths, Alex Olejniczak, had to correct Filan when she attempted to swear him in as the Dist. 1 trustee.

"You mean Dist. 2," Olejniczak said to laughter.

Cook County Commissioner John Daley also was on hand to oversee the proceedings, congratulating the new village elected officials, and offering conciliatory words to to departing board members.

Daley shared a story that his mother told him of an election that his father, Richard J. Daley, lost in 1946.

"[My father's mother] told him at the time when one door shuts, another door opens," Daley said. "He went on to be very successful."
