Opening of the Centennial Aquatic Center at 94th Street and Nashville originally slated for Saturday, June 7, ihas been delayed due to mechanical issues, the Oak Lawn Park District announced.
Park district officials do not know when Centennial pool will open for the summer until a plumber is brought in to assess the pool’s mechanics after employees noticed the water levels going down.
“Essentially there is a leak in the pool,” park facilities director Joel Craig said. “It’s a matter of isolating it and determining what had failed.”
The shell of the pool was built in 1985, but sections have been upgraded over the years, Craig said.
Centennial pool will be closed indefinitely pending repairs.
Meanwhile, the Splash Pad at Centennial Aquatic Center will be open and FREE from 9 a.m. to dusk, daily until the pool opens.
Central Pool, 9400 S. Kenton Ave., will open as planned this Saturday. Central is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.; and Friday from noon to 6 p.m.
