Police Cameras, SW Highway and Central Project Weigh on Village Board Agenda

With just one Oak Lawn Village Board meeting left until the election, tonight’s less-is-more agenda is short enough so that candidates can finish up early and go back out campaigning.

Here’s what we’ll be watching:

Southwest Highway and Central Avenue Traffic Signalization Project: Will Cook County Commissioner John Daley (11th District) pop in at another Oak Lawn Village Board meeting? The ‘stealth Daley’ has made it to the last two meetings, to correct rhetoric and announce that the county would pick up the $1.2 million tab for the long awaited left turn lane at the corner of Southwest Highway and Central Avenue. Tonight, trustees will vote on resolutions for land acquisition and an intergovernmental agreement with Cook County related to the intersection. Maybe Commissioner Daley will stop by to make sure the deal gets done tonight.

Police Security Camera Capital Project: The village board will discuss and consider a police camera project.

What’s not on the agenda:

ComEd’s ‘Act of God’: Most likely Sunday’s early morning power surge, allegedly caused by a rogue raccoon in the Freshline Foods area, will be brought up during board discussion. We look forward to electrical aggregator Trustee Bob Streit’s (Dist. 3) expert analysis of the power surge. More than a dozen residents have reported fried computers, TVs, cable boxes and electrical appliances.

The Oak Lawn Village Board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at Village Hall, 9466 S. Raymond Ave. The meetings are free and open to the public.
