Possible Announcement of 111th Street Mystery Tenant, Sewer Rehab 'Anchor' Agenda

See what's on the agenda--both public and hidden--for Tuesday's Oak Lawn Village Board meeting.

After Cook County Commissioner John Daley’s surprise pop-in at the last village board meeting to correct some trustee rhetoric, the Oak Lawn Village Board will tackle an infrastructure-packed agenda at tonight's meeting.

This is among the handful of meetings that are left when we’ll see the Rutles together, and probably our only chance to see any kind of debate before the upcoming election since there doesn’t appear to be any interest among the candidates to hold a forum.

111th Street/Cicero Development – Will tonight be the night when the village board announces the mystery anchor tenant at the 111th Street and Cicero Avenue development? The village’s developer, Itasca-based Hamilton Partners, is said to be in the final stages of lease negotiations with the mystery tenant. The big rumor flying around town is that Mariano’s Fresh Market is the ultra tenant, but it’s anybody’s guess. Once in the fold, village officials assure us that other retailers and restaurants will quickly follow.

How much of a draw is Mariano’s? Chicago Real Estate Daily reported in December that Skokie-based developer Taxman Corp. landed seven new tenants after signing Mariano’s to anchor the Gateway to the West Loop Development at Madison and Halsted. Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc., GNC Inc., Eggsperience Pancakes & Café, Massage Envy Spa, Supercuts Inc., Red Mango Inc. and Pet Stuff are set to open there in the spring.

Patch was told to watch for an item on tonight’s agenda regarding the former Kmart property. Oak Lawn trustees are set to vote on an ordinance between the village of Oak Lawn and HP Stony Creek LLC approving and authorizing the execution of a ground lease “at the northwest corner of 111th Street and Cicero Avenue.”

Sanitary Sewer Lift Stations – More boring infrastructure stuff but probably important since it involves sewage. Trustees will approve a contract amendment with CDM Constructors Inc. pertaining to the rehabilitation of four Oak Lawn sanitary sewer lift stations.

Pocket Casinos – Oak Lawn is in line for not one but three new video gaming bistros offering beer, wine, light appetizers and gambling, in no particular order. Tonight, trustees will vote on an ordinance amending the Oak Lawn Village Code by adding a new chapter pertaining to “video gaming licenses.”

What’s not on the agenda?  Continuation of the discussion involving installation of a left hand turn lane at Southwest Highway and Central Avenue. Trustees voted on Feb. 12 to put the project on hold, presumably until afer the upcoming election, while divvying up roughly $4.5 million in remaining Build America Bonds among the village’s six districts, because, according to which side you talk to, somebody knocked somebody else on his ass last year.

The Oak Lawn Village Board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at Village Hall, 9466 S. Raymond Ave. The meetings are free and open to the public.
