Trib Praises Mayor, Trustees for Voting Away Pension

The Oak Lawn village government did away with their pensions in light of our state's current crisis.

The Chicago Tribune is lauding Oak Lawn Mayor Sandra Bury and the Oak Lawn village board for voting to do away with their respective pensions.

Though the dollar among is reactively insignificant (trustees earn less than $10,000 per year), it's the message that counts, according to the report.

"To their credit, the leaders of Oak Lawn recognized that they didn't need or deserve a pension and they did something about it," reads the article.

In Bury's eyes, the entire situation is rather absurd.

"It's ridiculous that part-time politicians have that benefit. Ridiculous," Bury told the Tribune. "In my opinion, that's how we got in trouble. Politicians got perks and regular people can't pay for it."
