Village Opens Emergency Cooling Centers During Heat Wave
Cooling centers will remain open throughout Tuesday as the Chicago region remains under a heat advisory.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Chicago area with temperatures hitting the mid 90s, with the heat index making it feel like 109 degrees. The dangerous hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday evening.
The Village of Oak Lawn has opened cooling centers throughout the village for those who may not have air conditioning and need a place to cool off. The village is also asking residents to check in on elderly neighbors or disabled persons who are living alone. Call 911 if you suspect your neighbors are having a medical emergency.
