New Head Basketball Coach “Expects More” at Queen of Peace

Burbank, IL –December 17, 2013 – The basketball team at Queen of Peace is delighted to welcome a new head coach to the school. George Shimko was hired to revamp and re-energize the basketball program. George Shimko is well-known in the area. He went to St. Basil Grammar School and St. Rita High School. He graduated from St. Xavier University and went on to play professional basketball in Belgium.

Coach Shimko created the George Shimko Basketball School in 1994 which provides quality youth basketball programming in Illinois and Indiana. A full complement of quality youth basketball programs, summer camps, leagues, teams, and tournaments are available for boys and girls 5 to 18 years old. He also created, designed, and implemented the Chicago Bulls Training Academy from 1998 to 2003.

Coach Shimko was hired to improve the quality of the Queen of Peace Basketball program. His theme for the season is “Expect More.” Coach Shimko will be putting emphasis on the fundamentals of the game in order to create solid all-around players. He knows that winning games is the ultimate goal, but for him winning also means having a great experience. Coach Shimko believes by teaching the basics of the game of basketball as well as being students of the game, his athletes will work hard and find ways to win. The team has been practicing non-stop and by the end of the season, a new Queen of Peace basketball program will be well on its way to greatness.
