The World Religions Class from Queen of Peace Explores Various Faiths

Burbank, IL –December 11, 2013 – The World Religions Class from Queen of Peace recently took a field trip to visit various locations of worship. The first stop was to the St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Burr Ridge. The class was met there by a lay leader of the church who instructed everyone in the tenets of the Coptic Orthodox Faith, which are the same as the Roman Catholic beliefs. The same Creed and 7 sacraments are shared as well as the Real Presence in the Eucharist. The guide showed them many of the beautiful icons and decorations of the church.

The next stop of the day was in Lemont to see the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago. An elder of the community described the gods and goddesses and gave a detailed explanation of the beliefs. The next stop was at the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview and the class was welcomed by Sheik Jamal Said and his wife Aisha. They observed the devout at the midday prayer and were able to ask many questions about Islam.

The class saw the Shrine to Buddha and scenes depicting the events in the life of Buddha. In total eighteen seniors from the World Religions Class were accompanied by Ms. Luci Miller, Mr. Joe Piazza, a student’s mom and the older alumae-sister of one of our students.
