Moraine Valley to Host Medical Presentation On Mind-Body Pain Management

Moraine Valley Community College will host a Medical Education Series presentation on "Mind-Body Pain Management" from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the college's Dorothy Menker Theater in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills. The event is co-sponsored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is free and open to the public.

Dr. John Stracks will be facilitating the presentation. Stracks is part of the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group as a staff member at the Center for Integrative Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he also had an Integrative Medicine Fellowship. Stracks' training in integrative medicine has taught him that all treatment plans should include a mind and body as well as a social and spiritual component. He believes the mind and body are intimately connected, that many disease processes involve their interplay and that the most powerful interventions involve changes in activity level, nutrition and lifestyle.

For several years, Moraine Valley's Career/Health Sciences Programs and Northwestern Memorial Hospital have collaborated to host this Medical Education Series on a variety of health topics, including concussions, cardiology, tobacco cessation, urology, and cochlear implants.
