Oak Lawn Community High School "Spartans Through the Ages" Homecoming Parade

PARADE CANECLED DUE TO WEATHER. The Oak Lawn Community High School Student Council is currently making plans for the Homecoming celebration. The festivities are scheduled for the week of October 11, 2011.  The week kicks-off with an All-School Pep Assembly on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. 

The Annual Homecoming Parade, under the theme of "Spartans Through the Ages" will step off at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 95th Street and Raymond and proceed west on 95th Street to the Warren O. Keneipp Athletic Stadium, located just west of the high school.  The evening will conclude with a pep-rally and fireworks show. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during the pep-rally. The recently renovated athletic field will be dedicated to Edward F. Napleton of Napleton Honda for his financial commitments to installing the new FieldTurf.  

Again this year, the Homecoming Parade is being planned in cooperation with the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce. Chamber representatives include:  Christy Hernandez, President; Rita Olsen, Immediate Past President; Jean Fornal, 1st Vice President; Jeff Reichl, Treasurer; Karen Boll, Secretary; and Julie Miller, Executive Director.

The Student Council officers who are planning and coordinating the Homecoming activities are: Meriem Sadoun, President, Barbara Pajor, Vice-President, Kyle Cheng, Treasurer, and Jaafer Hindi, Secretary.  Mrs. Jennifer Sidlow is the Student Council Advisor and Mr. Joseph McCurdy is the Assistant Principal. 

The parade will be led by the Johnson-Phelps VFW Color Guard, and will feature the Homecoming Court, Spartan Marching Band, cheerleaders, and floats sponsored by the various student, community, and civic organizations. The Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce donates four cash prizes for the Best Float, Best Walking Float, Best Use of Theme, and Most Spirited Group.  This year’s Grand Marshal is Erich Grawunder (Class of 2001). Erich will be inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame on Monday, October 17, 2011.

On Friday, October 14, 2011, the Oak Lawn Spartans will host the Argo Argonauts in a Varsity football game. The Oak Lawn Spartans, coached by Mr. Sean Lucas, will kick-off its game at 7:00 p.m.; while the sophomores, coached by Mr. Kevin McKeown, will get underway at 5:00 p.m.  The half-time show will feature the Spartan Marching Band, Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and the presentation of the Homecoming Court including the Homecoming Queen and King. 

The Student Activities Office is sponsoring an alumni hospitality room in the student cafeteria and the students from the school’s speech and drama programs will provide food and beverages during the varsity football game.  All OLCHS alumni are cordially invited to stop by for refreshments and visit with faculty and old friends. 

The Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium Gym. Tickets for students are available from Student Council members.
