Football: Brother Rice Outlasts Providence in Double-Overtime Thriller

Brother Rice 38, Providence 31 (2 OT): Crusaders pull out 38-31 road win thanks to big plays by running back Martez Walker and linebacker Cody Stull.

Breaking It Down: Any win a team can get in the rugged Catholic League Blue Conference is a quality win. But winning a game the way Brother Rice did at on Friday night—38-31 in double-overtime—makes it all the more worthwhile.

After both teams failed to score on their first possession in overtime, the Crusaders scored the only points of the overtime on a 4-yard touchdown run by Martez Walker. Then, on defense, the Crusaders picked up an interception by Cody Stull to end the game.

Both Walker and Stull had big plays in regulation as Walker scored two touchdowns and Stull had an interception that led to a score. The score off of Stull’s interception early in the fourth quarter gave the Crusaders what looked to be an insurmountable 31-17 lead.  However, the Celtics stormed back to force the overtime, scoring 14 points in the final 7 minutes of regulation play.
