The D229 school board race received a total of 456 write-in votes. Only votes for write-in candidates certified by the county were counted. Write-in votes cast for such un-certified candidates as Mickey Mouse and Sponge Bob Square Pants don't count.

Greene and Sodaro filed as write-in candidates when not enough candidates filed nominating petitions for the four open board seats in December, turning it into a contested race.

The final race results for OLCHS Dist. 229 are:

James C. Melnik – 32.07% 3,547

Robert G. Loehr – 30.36% 3,358

Kathleen Berry – 37.56% 4,154

Stephen Greene (write-in) - 289
