Girls Volleyball: Marist Rises to No. 1 in Weekly Poll

RedHawks get job done in opener despite playing without Lauren Zielinski. Mother McAuley slips to No. 2 spot.

1. Marist (1-0): Mallory Salis, Kelly Marcinek, Kirsten Irkovic and Ashley Holder will carry the load for Marist in the early going. RedHawks will get even better when senior middle blocker Lauren Zielinski returns from an injury rehab.

2. Mother McAuely (1-1): The Mighty Macs bounced back from a season-opening setback vs. Joliet Catholic by defeating Lockport on Tuesday. Mother McAuley's Syndey McPhillips had eight digs and seven kills.

3. Sandburg (0-0): Eagles are itching to get going at the Lyons Quad on Sept. 2.

4. Andrew (6-1): Maureen Carls put on a show in the T-Bolts' straight-sets victory over Homewood-Flossmoor. She finished with 11 digs, eight assists, five blocks and three aces.

5. Chicago Christian (6-1): Knights' coach James Garcia is closing in on his 100th victory as he starts his fourth season at Chicago Christian. He as turned a little school into a big volleyball power.
