'Guys and Dolls' Opens At OLCHS

hits the boards this weekend with the staging of its fall musical Guys and Dolls—Damon Runyon’s romp through New York City’s underworld in the 1950s.

The musical tells the story about a gambler (Sky Masterson) challenged to take a female missionary to Havana by another gambler (Nathan Detroit), who has a hidden motive to finance a floating crap game. Along the way, Sky and Nathan encounter other gangsters, coppers and love.

“This is one of my favorite shows of all time,” OLCHS English teacher and drama coach William Denton said, who is directing the musical.

“With its great songs, exciting dance numbers and unforgettable characters, it’s a show with a little something for everyone,” Denton added.

Performances are at 7 p.m. at Oct. 27 through Oct. 29 in the OLCHS auditorium gymnasium at 9400 Southwest Highway.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, the D229 Board of Education invites residents to a special ribbon cutting for the high school’s recently renovated Little Theater. The ceremony will highlight the success of the school’s theater, speech and music programs.
