Oak Lawn Crowns Dance Winner

Footloose faculty members showed off their smooth moves in Oak Lawn Community High School’s second annual competition, modeled after the popular TV reality show Dancing With the Stars.

Eight Oak Lawn faculty members cut a rug with dance pros from the Heart and Sole Dance Studio in Tinley Park.

Teachers tangoed in tuxedos and gowns, then faced off in a second round of swing dancing.

Students roared at math teacher Brian Fiene’s breakout swing-break dancing. Fiene matched professional dancer Lynzi Sholtz move for move for some jitterbugging. (Fiene got slammed for being too “stiff” in the tango—then soared to first place in the second round.)

Faculty had to do more than impress the judges. Students, staff, family and friends voted for their favorite dancer, placing $1 per vote that went toward the Parent Project for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The charity was chosen with one person in mind: math teacher Shannon Dematteo, whose son was diagnosed with the disease.

At the end of the evening, students raised over $14,000 that went toward the charity.
