OLCHS In Lead To Win $25K for Autoshop Makeover

Oak Lawn students' video is leading eight schools in Facebook vote to win grant from UTI Foundation. Voting continues through Jan. 18.

automotive classes made the final eight of schools across the country competing to win $25,000 for an autoshop makeover.

Before winter break, the students brainstormed and created a hilarious video explaining why Oak Lawn should be the school to win the contest sponsored by the Universal Technical Institute Foundation.

The students’ video was selected as one of eight finalists to compete in the next stage of the contest.

The video with the most Facebook likes wins the $25,000 prize, which will go toward refurbishing OLCHS’s auto shop.

Patch received about 10 emails on Thursday from parents, students, faculty and alumni asking us to promote the contest and we are happy to do so.

Log into your Facebook account. Follow the “Drive To Succeed: Take 2” link that takes you to the eight finalist videos. OLCHS’s is the third video in the top row (“UTI/OLCHS”).

As of 1:46 a.m. Friday, Oak Lawn was in the lead with 2,405 Facebook likes/votes, followed by Wayne Township High School with 1,397 Facebook likes.

OLCHS is asking teachers, students, parents, friends and family to watch the video and vote for it through noon MST Jan. 18. Oak Lawn already has a great start on the voting. Let’s help push the high school over the mountain top so these deserving students can update the autoshop for future classes.

UTI Foundation supports and encourages technical education for automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle, marine, NASCAR and other transportation industries through scholarships, grants, career development and other special programs.
