Your Turn: Pick Our Patch Athlete of the Week

The contenders: Marian's Sylvie Brick, Tinley Park's Kyle Sheridan, Providence's Telly Korbakes, Richards' Tommy Mister, LW East's J.J. Robertson and Sandburg's Frankie Saban.

Give us a hand and pick our Patch Athlete of the Week in the Southland for the week ending Oct. 9.

Sylvie Brick, senior, golfer, Marian Catholic. Brick shot 75 and defeated teammate Bree Veazey in a playoff to capture medalist honors in the Class AA Homewood-Flossmoor Regional at Coyote Run. The two set the pace in the Spartans’ runaway girls golf victory.

Telly Korbakes, senior, golfer, Providence. Korbakes shot a 1-over 73 to claim medalist honors in the Class 3A Minooka Regional at Heritage Bluffs. He led the Celtics to the boys golf regional championship with a team total of 308.

Tommy Mister, sophomore, quarterback, Richards. Mister accounted for four touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 55-12 football victory over cross-town rival Oak Lawn. He completed 6-of-9 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 35 yards on six carries and scored two more TDs on the ground.

J.J. Robertson, senior, wide receiver, Lincoln-Way East. Robertson showed why he is headed to Illinois in the Griffins’ 42-7 football victory over Lincoln-Way Central. He put on a show of his athleticism with four catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns. He turned one short pitch-and-catch opportunity into a 75-yard scoring play.

Frankie Saban, freshman, golfer, Sandburg. Saban shot 76 and won a three-hole playoff for medalist honors in the Class AA Stagg Regional at Green Garden Country Club. Saban led Sandburg to a third-place finish in the girls golf regional and a berth in the Marist Sectional.

Kyle Sheridan, senior, quarterback, Tinley Park. Sheridan rushed for two first downs, completed a third-and-10 pass to Tracey Brandi and capped the Titans’ clinching drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge in a 42-28 victory over Oak Forest. Sheridan’s work helped Tinley Park snap a 17-year football winless drought against the Bengals.
