Paul and Bridgette like each other. So do Matt and Julie. But it’s never that simple, is it? There’s the personal baggage, the crossed signals, the walls and defenses and ghosts of the past that continue to haunt us. Set against the backdrop of Chicago’s vibrant storefront theater scene, Beautiful Broken is a romantic dramedy about relationships, family, the obstacles we create in attaining connection, and whether we can ever really fix what’s broken.

“I’ve lived with this play for a long time, and I am so pleased to finally share it with a Chicago audience,” says playwright and BNT Artistic Director Benjamin Brownson. “I’ve always been fascinated by the messiness of relationships, the complications and surprises, the unspoken histories and darker pieces of ourselves that we are afraid to share with others, yet feel compelled to.  I think people will recognize and really connect with these people, these issues, these relationships.”

Beautiful Broken has previously been presented as a part of Chicago Dramatists Saturday Series, and was further developed through workshop productions in Chicago and Holland, Michigan.  The show is the second production in Broken Nose Theatre’s season long exploration of love, sex, and relationships that began with the hit Chicago premiere of My First Time last summer.  The season will conclude with the Chicago Premiere of the hit musical Rooms: a rock romance.  This Outer Critics Circle Award-nominated musical tells the story of an ambitious singer-songwriter and a reclusive rocker whose creative and romantic relationship unfolds against the backdrop of the 70’s new wave punk scene and was called “A new contender for Best Musical” by BroadwayWorld.com.  Fresh off the heels of successful productions Off-Broadway and in LA, this Chicago Premiere production will be directed by BNT Artistic Director Benjamin Brownson (My First Time), with musical direction by Austin Cook.
