Local Stylist Gets a Helping Hand Thanks to Steve Harvey

Cathy Espinoza, of Chicago Ridge, owner of Hairs Too You!, gets tips from celebrity salon expert Tabatha Coffey.

A woman who styles hair in the south suburbs for the elderly and disabled received a helping hand from TV show host Steve Harvey, who connected her with industry expert Tabatha Coffey.

Cathy Espinoza, of Chicago Ridge, who styles hair for folks at the Tinley Park Senior Center as part of her mobile salon, Hairs Too You!, appeared on the Steve Harvey show Thursday.

“At first when they said I’d be meeting Tabatha Coffey, I was like, ‘Oh, she’s a toughie,’ ” Espinoza told Sun-Times Media columnist Donna Vickroy. “But then I thought, ‘She might really help me.’ ”

Espinoza learned how to better promote her business and bring her message to social media. And American Express gave her $10,000 to help her business. American Express is a sponsor of Small Business Saturday, a monthlong promotion on Patch.

“I’m slowly doing more on Twitter but my daughter laughs at me because I get hung up on commas and periods,” Espinoza said. “Old habits are hard to break.”
