Athlete of the Week: Kametas Leads Spartans' Surge Toward Top
Pitcher/first baseman Bob Kametas helps Oak Lawn's baseball team pull within one game of Richards with a pair of wins over Reavis.
In a big week for Oak Lawn baseball, sophomore pitcher and first baseman Bob Kametas led the way.
With two wins over Reavis, Oak Lawn inched to within one game of South Suburban Conference Red-leading Richards.
On Monday, the Spartans won at Reavis as Kametas pitched a complete-game two-hitter, allowing just one run. The Spartans won 4-1.

“My pitches were moving and I got good calls behind the plate,” Kametas said. “I felt good out there."
He also gave credit to his defense.

“My teammates had no errors behind me,” Kametas said. “They made all their plays. That was a big key.”
The Spartans followed their road game against Reavis with a home game against the Rams, winning 9-8 after trailing by six runs. Kametas went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs.
“Those wins were big,” Kametas said. “They brought us right back in the race to win conference.”
For his efforts, Kametas is recognized as Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
