Boys Basketball: LT Ends Brother Rice's Playoff Crusade

Lyons Township 63, Brother Rice 46. Lions roar in regional final behind 20-point scoring performance from Eric Powers.

The Hot Read: Brother Rice and Lyons Township met in the championship game of the Class 4A Brother Rice Regional on Friday night, and the Lions scored a 63-46 victory in an atmosphere that harkened back to yesteryear. The gym was packed to the rafters with the Brother Rice Crazies (student cheering section) going wild and an equally charged LT contingent setting the stage for a classic.

And, for about one quarter, that's what it looked like it might be, a classic as the two teams battled to a 10-10 tie. Unfortunately for Brother Rice and coach Pat Richardson, it all unraveled to start the second quarter when the heavily favored Lions flexed their collective muscle and scored the first 11 points, taking a 21-10 lead with 5 minutes left in the first half. LT never let up.

Patch’s MVP: This one is a shared award. For Brother Rice, Alex Majewski (19 points) gets the nod. For LT, Eric Powers (20 points) was the man.
