Brother Rice's Football Game at Downers Grove South Draws TV Interest

Richards' girls swim team celebrates conference championship, while Oak Lawn alum Colin Altenburg scores a game-winning touchdown for Carthage College.

’s second-round state playoff football game at Downers Grove South has been chosen for the “Prep Destination” segment on NBC 5 News Today.

NBC 5 News Today will have cameras at Downers Grove South High School early Friday morning in advance of Friday’s 7 p.m. kickoff, and highlights of the game will appear on “High School Lites” on Comcast SportsNet.

Brother Rice (7-3) is the 6th seed in Class 8A, while Downers Grove South (9-1) is the third seed.

Richards Swims to Conference Title

The girls varsity swim team won the South Suburban Conference Red Division meet on Oct. 29 at Shepard High School.

Richards compiled a team score of 276. Oak Lawn (264.50) finished second, and Evergreen Park (247) was third.

Richards’ Julie Coti finished first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, and she teamed with Chris Dvoracek, Michelle Jozefowicz and Emily Wetzel to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Dvoracek won the 100 butterfly, and Magda Kott won the 50 freestyle.

Sectionals are scheduled for Nov. 12.

Big Game for Oak Lawn Alum Altenburg

Former standout Colin Altenburg found the end zone for the first time in his young football career for Carthage College, and it turned out to be a game-winner.

Altenburg scored from the 1-yard line on third down with 35 seconds to play, lifting Carthage to a 31-28 victory over College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe North Park University last Saturday.

Altenburg, a fullback for Carthage, was named to the South Suburban Conference all-conference team last year as a senior with Oak Lawn.
