Change of Pace 5K

This month, runners and walkers can join the fight against homelessness through the Change of Pace 5K, a race and event taking place Saturday, September 22, at 9:30am in Jackson Park.

Event Director Michelle Lincoln, along with The Prop and a few dedicated friends, has spent the last nine months organizing the Change of Pace 5K as a way to provide others with an approachable way to help the homeless. “I think all of us want to make the world a better place,” explains Lincoln, “but we usually don’t know where to start. The Change of Pace 5K is a great way to take that first step.”

The event, sanctioned by USA Track & Field, will feature a 5K race along Lake Michigan’s scenic Lakefront Trail, live music from members of the Chicago Street Musicians, family activities for kids of all ages, raffle prizes, an awards ceremony, and complimentary post-race refreshments.

Proceeds from the Change of Pace 5K will benefit KNO Clothing, an ethical clothing company dedicated to clothing and housing the homeless in over 150 communities in the United States. To date, KNO Clothing has hand-delivered 1,250 articles of clothing and, along with their partners, housed more than 19,000 people. According to Lincoln, “One of the many reasons we chose to partner with KNO Clothing is their dedication to direct action. They provide for a very real, physical need, while intentionally investing in avenues for long-term change.”

The Change of Pace 5K is sponsored by doejo, an innovative, Chicago-based design firm. From Lincoln’s perspective, “Doejo’s support is an incredible example of the power we possess when we work together to make a difference. Alone, our impact is small. But when we join together and each use what we have to do what we can, we can change the world.”
