Former Oak Lawn Standout Hansen Powers Carthage Men's Volleyball

Randy Hansen, a former Oak Lawn Community High School standout, recently was named the Sports Imports AVCA Men's Division III National Volleyball Player of the Week.

At Oak Lawn Community High School, he is remembered as the best of the best.

At Carthage College, Randy Hansen is crafting a similar legacy through his play on the men's volleyball court.

Hansen, a 6-foot senior outside hitter, recently was named the Sports Imports AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He leads Carthage (7-1) in kills (131) and digs (67). He boasts a .403 attack percentage.

And none of his accomplishments rate as a surprise to his former coach.

"Randy (Hansen) was the best volleyball player I have had the opportunity to coach and that is saying a lot because there have been a lot of outstanding players to come through our program," said former Oak Lawn boys volleyball coach Dennis McNamara in a news release.

"What set Randy apart was his tremendous physical skills and the ability to do whatever it took to win matches. He was a winner and has continued to be a winner even at the next level. He is an outstanding representation of what Oak Lawn volleyball is all about."

Hansen earned second-team All-America honors in 2011. He is a criminal justice major.
