Oak Lawn wideout Dan Townsend has been waiting for a breakout game. Against Eisenhower, he had just that, cathcing eight passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns on Friday night.
Even though the Cardinals defeated the Spartans 35-20, the insipired play of Townsend and quarterback Bob Olsen gives Oak Lawn players, coaches and fans a lot to look forward to for the rest of the season.
"Dan is a heck of a reciever," Spartans coach Sean Lucas said. "He has been working hard all year. So, it was good to see him have a game like he did."
As the Spartans attempted to rally against the Cardinals, Townsend's two touchdown catches kept them right in the game. But it was more than just that catches that were impressive. It was also the chemistry Townsend and Olsen had working for them in the Spartan offense.
"I had yet to have a touchdown this year, so I was happy to get the two I got," Townsend said.
With the relative ease Olsen and Townsend made hooking up look, there is a good possibility it will be happening a lot more often as the Spartans (2-2) move forward. Next up, they play at Hillcrest on Friday night.
