Oak Lawn Fishing Team Standout Patino Reels in Scholarship

Marist and Mother McAuley had good showings at last weekend's Reavis boys and girls cross-country invitational.

Oak Lawn’s fishing team had a busy summer and Spartan team members are giving the community an opportunity to read about it in the Fall 2011 edition of the Spartan Fishing Team Newsletter.

One of the items in the newsletter is about Carlos Patino receiving a fishing scholarship at the Oak Lawn Spring Sports Awards Night. Also, there are tips for catching pike.

Boys Golf: Kendryna Leads Richards

Richards won two boys golf duals against behind the strong play of Jake Kendryna.

Against Evergreen Park, Kendryna earned medalist honors, shooting a 40 and leading Richards to a 167-177 victory. Kendryna duplicated the feat two days later against Eisenhower, shooting a 39 to capture medalist honors in a 170-181 victory.

Coti Leads Richards to Third at Shepard

Richards’ girls swimming team had a strong showing in the Shepard Invite, taking third out of eight south-suburban teams last weekend. Oak Forest (346 points) edged Evergreen Park (326), while Richards finished with 223 points, just beating out Shepard (217) for third.

Richards’ only individual winner was Julia Coti, who won the 100 backstroke (1:04.17).

Marist, McAuley Take Care of Business

Mother McAuley’s season-opening loss to Joliet Catholic seems like a distant memory. The Mighty Macs demolished Mount Assisi 25-12, 25-9 last week. Lizzy Scanlon put down seven kills and had three digs, while Annie Myren had eight assists and two aces for Mother McAuley (3-1).

Marist also had two convincing wins last week, taking out Fenwick 25-13, 25-11 and following that up with a 25-19, 25-19 victory over Stagg a day later.

Marist Tennis Dominates Quad Meet

Playing three tennis matches in one day can be an arduous task for any team. To almost sweep through all three would be quite the accomplishment.

Marist won convincingly in its own quad on Saturday. With 14 wins, the RedHawks easily outpaced Mother McAuley (11), Eisenhower (3) and Richards (2). Marist swept Richards and Eisenhower 5-0 and beat Mother McAuley 4-1 for the quad win.

Caddigan Powers Brother Rice

Led by individual winner Dan Caddigan, Brother Rice took second in the Reavis boys cross-country invitational. Lyons edged Brother Rice 73-82 for the title. Caddigan completed the three-mile course in 15:38, a full 12 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Nicholas Korhumel of Libertyville.

Cody Haberkom (16:05) and Kyle Hauser (16:12) finished fifth and sixth for Marist, which placed third as a team with 92 points.

On the girls side, Marist’s Maggie O’Loughlin won the individual title (18:30) and led the RedHawks to a second-place finish. Lyons also won the girls team title, edging Marist 33-40.

Mother McAuley (85) finished in third place with Margaret Hurley (18:56) and Bridget McQuinn (19:13.4) crossing the line in fifth and seventh place.
