Oak Lawn's Calandriello Earns Class 6A Football Academic All-State Honors

Defensive end Mike Calandriello registered 50 tackles and eight sacks in a bounce-back type season for Oak Lawn. His play helped the Spartans contend for a playoff berth.

In the halls at Oak Lawn Community High School, he is known as Brainiac and Sack Man.

Oak Lawn defensive end Mike Calandriello called on his classroom smarts to help him diagnose the plays and his football instincts to lead him to the ball during a bounce-back type of season for the Spartans.

He earned all-conference and all-area honors after racking up 50 tackles. He also finished with eight sacks for the Spartans (4-5).

And now he has another honor to put on his resume: Calandriello has been named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Class 6A Academic All-State team.

“Mike is very deserving of this honor,” Oak Lawn coach Sean Lucas said in a news release. “He has worked very hard during his four years, and we are very proud of what he has accomploished.”
