Oak Lawn's Lindelsee Wins Individual Cross Country Title

Spartans' Eric Lindelsee captures the boys race at the David Brady Invitational, while Oak Lawn and Richards enjoyed strong showings at the Spartans' girls volleyball tournament.

cross country standout Eric Lindelsee took home the individual title in Saturday’s David Brady Invitational, finishing the three-mile course in 15 minutes, 2 seconds.

The Spartans took sixth place as a team with 193 points, while (208) finished eighth out of 18 teams. Richards’ Tim Geraghty was third overall with a time of 15:36. 

Boys Soccer: Marist Wins Twice

went 2-0 last week, defeating Providence and Marian Catholic, to improve its record to 6-5.

Pat Hehir, Dan Grand, Joe Gainer and Roger Ciszewski scored in Marist’s 4-2 win over Providence.

Ciszewski provided both goals in Marist’s 2-1 overtime win over Marian Catholic in the RedHawks’ East Suburban Catholic opener.

Girls Volleyball: Marist Suffers First Loss

After cruising through Pool B at the Wheaton Warrenville South Tournament last weekend, Marist lost for the first time all season, falling to Sandburg 20-25, 21-25 in the quarterfinals.

Marist rebounded to capture fifth place in the tournament, with Ashley Holder and Mallory Salis taking home all-tournament team honors.

Benet beat Hinsdale South in the tournament championship. 

Girls Volleyball: Richards, Oak Lawn Make Strong Showings at Classic

Richards finished fifth and Oak Lawn took eighth in the Oak Lawn Volleyball Classic this past weekend.

The Bulldogs began pool play on Friday night with a 25-18, 29-27 victory over Bremen, but lost to Lincoln-Way North 17-25, 25-27. Richards finished off the preliminary round with an easy win over Rich East, in which the Bulldogs held their opponent to single-digit points in both games.

In the Silver Bracket, Richards defeated Oak Lawn in a tough three-game match, 25-21, 12-25, 25-21. Richards then took down Lincoln-Way West to claim fifth place.

Oak Lawn won its first two games on Friday, easily defeating Thornwood, 25-10, 25-13, and battling past Rich Central, 25-19, 18-25, 15-10.

The Spartans’ Saturday was not nearly as kind. Oak Lawn fell to Shepard in pool play and then suffered the aforementioned loss to Richards. Romeoville defeated the Spartans 25-15, 25-15 to hand Oak Lawn an eight-place finish. 

Boys Cross Country: Marist 2nd in Pre-Championship Meet

Marist’s boys cross country team finished second to Benet in the East Suburban Catholic Conference pre-championship race. Benet (38 points) outdistanced Marist (70) and St. Viator (75) for the title.

Kyle Hauser (15:27) finished second to Carmel’s K.J. Matuszak (15:23), while Cody Haberkom took fourth (15:34)

Scores count 40 percent toward a team’s final conference total. The other 60 percent comes from the ESCC championship in October.
