Richards Sophomore to Perform with Olympic Idol

16-year-old Jordan Moeller has been invited to appear in Ice Dreams Starring Johnny Weir. The show is at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

He dreams of one day skating in the Olympics.

For now, he’ll settle for skating alongside an Olympian.

Jordan Moeller, a 16-year-old sophomore at Richards High School, has been invited to join one of his favorite athletes in a figure skating show later this week. He’ll be appearing in the second annual Ice Dreams Starring Johnny Weir at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

Weir is a three-time U.S. National Champion, two-time Olympian and World figure skating medalist. Moeller won the silver medal in the Novice division at the U.S. National Championships earlier this year.

He hopes to keep moving up through the ranks and eventually join Team USA at the World Championships and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. No wonder he is so excited about skating with Weir for the second time in Weir’s show.

“This is such an incredible opportunity and so much fun,” Moeller said in a Fireworks Sports Marketing release. “These are skaters I’ve followed since I was a little kid … skating with Johnny Weir? Wow!”

Moeller started skating at the age of 4. He followed his sister to her lessons at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena. At Richards and in his own neighborhood, he is known as Mr. Participation.

He plays on the Bulldogs’ boys volleyball team. He is a member of the school aviation club. He plays trumpet at his church. And he somehow finds the time to remain a nationally ranked figure skater, too.

Moeller will appear in the Ice Dreams show along with two other Chicago-area natives—World Junior bronze medalist Agnes Zawadski of Des Plaines and Ice Dance Olympian Melissa Gregory of Northfield. All three will be pitching in for a humanitarian cause.

Ice Dreams will donate $1 from every ticket sold to the Japanese Red Cross in support of the relief effort. Also, there will be a silent auction the night of the show. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.
