HollyDays at the BAC, Jazz Concert and Vendor Fairs: Your Weekend Event Guide

Get the lowdown of all the weekend's happenings in the Beverly/Mt. Greenwood, Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park area.

Don't let the post-Halloween doldrums get you down, there is still plenty to do around town this weekend. From vendor fairs to jazz concerts, there is something for everyone.

Friday, Nov. 1

Ladies Night Out at Stony Creek - Take time to unwind with your besties around the stone fireplace at Stony Creek for a night of beauty, relaxing and clubbing. Vendors and crafters will be selling their wares for some truly distinctive holiday gifting. 7 p.m. $11 includes light appetizers and a cash bar.

St. Linus Smoker - Enjoy an evening out with guys for a smoker and sports night as the St. Linus Men's Club honors man of the year, St. Rita and Notre Dame alum Jack Callahan. Featured guest speaker Denis Savard will tell tales of his former team, the Chicago Black Hawks. 6 p.m. $50. Call 708-745-0718 for more info.

Saint Xavier Jazz Ensemble Concert - At 8 p.m. the SXU Jazz Ensemble will be performing the music of Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and more. Come out for a night of jazz and big band music at McGuire Hall on the university's campus.

Saturday, Nov. 2


Genealogy Workshop -  A team of volunteer DAR genealogists will be available to assist prospective members and members of the community who have questions about their family history and genealogy. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ridge Historical Society, 10621 S. Seely Ave, Chicago.  There is no charge for the workshop, but register by contacting Susan Smith at (773) 791-9747 or sisty2@comcast.net. 

Durbins Cares for Kids Fighting Cancer - Durbins, 10240 S. Kedzie Ave., is sponsoring a benefit for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The event is from 3 to 7 p.m. and there is no entrance charge. There will be will free food, exciting raffles and a special split-the-pot drawing.

HollyDays For I Am Who I Am- The organization provides support and resources to families with children who have special needs. I Am Who I Am seeks acceptance through awareness for all people. The event will feature vendors selling artwork, hand-crafted gifts and jewelry, specialty foods, accessories and much more. There will be live music, appetizers and a cash bar. The event is at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.

Sunday, Nov. 3

South Side Baptist Church Revival Meeting - Evangelist Mike Schrock will lead a series of fall revival meetings on Nov. 3 at the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday services, continuing Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 4-6, at 7 p.m. Special music and nursery provided. Everyone is welcome.

Brother Rice Open House - Perspective students can check out the school's offerings and find out what it means to be a Crusader. The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
