Pumpkin Patches and Craft Fairs Highlight This Weekend's Local Event Listings

A pumpkin patch in Oak Lawn, Halloween Parade in Evergreen Park and a puppet show in Beverly -- it's your list of local weekend events.

Browsing through this weekend's list of local events it truly feels like late October. From a pumpkin patch sprouting up at First United Methodist Church in Oak Lawn to a canine costume ball in Evergreen Park, the autumnal air is overflowing with fun. So heat up some apple cider, slice a piece of pumpkin pie and browse through our list of local weekend events.

First United Methodist Church of Oak Lawn Pumpkin Patch - After losing a weekend due to a late delivery by the pumpkin farmer, First United United Methodist Church's annul October pumpkin patch is in full swing at 100th Street and Central Avenue. Pumpkins of all sizes are available for sale, along with treats and handmade autumnal crafts. Free tractor rides, leaf piles for jumping and hiding and other children's activities are featured. The pumpkin patch is open 10 a.m. to dusk, Monday through Saturday; noon to dusk Sunday, through Oct. 31. Proceeds from pumpkin sales benefit community ministries.

Friday, Oct. 25

Evergreen Park Halloween Parade - From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 3450 W. 97th St., children up to 11 years of age are invited to take part in the parade, decorate a pumpkin and pick up a goody bag. The event is free, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. 

Movie Screening: Psycho (1960) - The Oak Lawn Public Library, 9427 S. Raymond Avenue, will be screening the Hitchcock classic at 10 a.m.

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26

Oak Lawn Community High School performs its fall musical Beauty and the Beast, the story of a young prince, who is cursed by an enchantress because of the lack of love in his heart. He must find a girl who will love him in spite of his looks before the last petal of an enchanted rose falls. Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A special children's matinee takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, where children will have the chance to be part of the show and meet Belle. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased through the ticket hotline at 708-424-5200 ext. 5920.

Rummage Sale - Oak Lawn’s Trinity Lutheran Church, 9701 S. Brandt Ave, is holding a rummage sale Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Save some money while raising funds for charity.

Pet Adoption Event - The Animal Welfare League will be holding an adoption event at the Burbank Petsmart, 7730 South Cicero Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

St. Gerald Mother's Club Craft and Vendor Fair -  From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. you can peruse the booths of crafters and area vendors at 9310 S. 55th Court in Oak Lawn. 

Salem Church Craft and Vendor Fair - Salem Church's, 9700 S. Kostner, craft fair   opens its doors at 9 a.m. and also features a large rummage sale.

Mikey's Trick or Treat Adventure - The Beverly Arts Center,  2401 W. 111th Street, will play host to this puppet performance that features live music and audience participation. The show starts at 1:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online in advance

End of Season Bike Ride and Potluck - Hit the trails with the Bike Psychos Cycling Club of Oak Lawn, Folks and Spokes and the Joliet Cycling Club for a cemetery ride at Goodenow Grove Forest Preserve starting at 9 a.m. and then a chili challenge and cookout at noon. Trick or Treat on Ice - The Oak Lawn Park District's Ice Arena, 9320 S. Kenton Ave., will welcome all ghouls and goblins at this annual event. Open from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Admission is $6 and there is a $3 skate rental. There will be treats provided for all kids in costume.

3rd Annual Canine Costume Ball - Jacob's Well in Evergreen Park, 3450 W. Maple St., will hold a grand march at 1:45 p.m. for dogs in costume. The event will also feature games for dogs, a blessing of the pets and prizes.  

Pet Adoption Event -  The Animal Welfare League will be holding an adoption event at the Crestwood Petsmart, 4975 Cal Sag Rd., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
