Illinois receives 100% of the lottery profits, right! Oh I'm sorry, that's what Illinois said inRead More the 1970's when the lottery came to be. Where did all of those dollars go? GENERAL FUND? I remember so many "temporary" income tax increases as well too. Liars? Lawyers? Same thing?

Tim F. I was just about to address the same issue of the lottery getting approved based on itRead More proceeds would be earmarked for Illinois schools.

I believe this is a great idea. Why shouldn't a calming herb be mainstream? I graduated highRead More school in 79 and NONE of the "pot heads" I knew then moved on to harder drugs nor are any of them is jail for involuntary manslaughter. Of the 3 heavy drinkers I knew then 2 are in jail. Plus marijuana has true and proven medicinal properties. Disagree? Ask the parents whose kids have seizures hour after hour who after ingesting a certain strain of marijuana stop seizing and the amount of seizures drops dramatically. Or the cancer patient who can't eat due to chemo, given pot brownies, they can eat and keep it down. This helps put weight on and gives strength to fight their cancer. Anything in excess is wrong, moderation is the key. A small amount of pot ingested mellows people out. A small amount of alcohol , 2 or 3 shots, puts everyone at risk if drinker gets behind the wheel of a car. Colorado has gotten this right.

I would want to be briefed by both sides, but from the text, it appears the police are reportingRead More what he said at the time. He could not know in advance whether they were armed or not - since they could have had concealed weapons. Unless he was a trained and experienced gun fighter, once the action started he was acting on pure instinct and terror, as any vet will tell you about their first time in dangerous combat. The episode was unfortunate indeed, but unless I'm missing something here, there is no homicide case due to age and circumstances.

The 'quality adjustment' to the AP results appear to be the only basis as to why DHS wasn't rankedRead More above Stevenson - as the # 1 truly 'public' [taking all comers - not getting to pick and choose its student body - like the academies and/or magnets] in the State of Illinois. OK, so, DHS will have to 'try harder.' As for Highland-Park, what's the story over there; and the same goes for New Trier? My, how the once mighty have fallen. Go Big Red!

What kind of a stupid, malicious idiot would pull that sort of a prank? I agree that the kid whoRead More made the phone call to the SWAT team about his opposing video games player was a sore loser, which is why he did that, but he should be criminally prosecuted, made to pay the bill, and perhaps do some community service in order to pay off that big bill. Hopefully, that kid will learn a lesson if he is prosecuted for his prank, which he should be.

Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Susan Harris April 23, 2014 at 09:12 pm
Tamara, what social studies standards are you talking about? The Common Core only covers standardsRead More in literacy and math. There are no CC standards for science or history. Are you talking about state standards?
Tamara April 23, 2014 at 10:35 pm
Common Core has science and social studies standards - they were written after math and ELA - theyRead More have not been implemented yet. They are more controversial so math and ELA was put thru first to pave the way.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! Barbara Blaine, at a SNAP press conference Monday regarding Father Michael O'Connell
Bravo06 April 22, 2014 at 05:49 pm
DM and Ann let me help you out here. First this article is wrong. Second the allegation says itRead More happened at Golds gym in 1999 and involved a Marist freshman. Third, you had to be 17 to get into Gold's Gym, no exceptions. Fourth Father O'Connell never worked at or near a school. So riddle me this, someones intel is off and its not mine. So before you decide to condemn people, do some research. Dont just read a title and assume guilt.

I went to golds gym from 1994 to 2002. You could go there if you were 13 with you parent signing theRead More gym contract releasing them from liability. I remember so creeping church guy from our Lady. He tried making small talk with me. I thought he was a creep and avoided him. I found it weird he used to wear Sandburg football and wrestling there considering I never remembered him coaching there, nor did my younger siblings. I always wondered why some 30 something year old guy was always talking to the high school and college kids while there was plenty of hot trim in there. Do you own research first bravo, you didn't have to be 17 to get into gold's, I started going there when I was 14.

This is our system, it sucks. When I reported ( at least 30 times or more) social security fraud toRead More social security administration, nothing was done. So I went to our congressman lipinski and reported it to him ( several times ) that a lady who does not live in the U.S. , is not a citizen, visited U.S. twice for a few weeks is collecting $1300 per month, and her relative is getting all her SS paperwork and once a year she is forging that lady's signature and sending it in to SS so she keeps receiving her fraudulent benefits. Another reason why this system sucks is that I thought you have to be a citizen to serve on jury duty. Well, the same lady got a summons for a jury ( it came to my house as I was a secondary address), so when I called the jury duty dept. , and told them that the lady is not a citizen, does not live in the U.S.A., only has been in the U.S. twice for a short visit, they told me to send proof that she is not a citizen. how could I prove that she is not a citizen and does not live in the U.S.? What kind of info would anybody send in as a proof of non-citizen? I threw the summons in a garbage. Her social security stopped 4 years later when her relative passed away and all the mail came to my house , as I was a secondary address. When I received her statement from social security requesting her signature, I ripped it up and threw it in the garbage, and the payments stopped. That shows you how careless, stupid and bad our system is. I believe that the money she defrauded our system of belongs to our citizens and not foreigners.
