A surprise ceremony was held at Oak Lawn Community High School recognizing the student anglers for promoting the sport in school and in the community.
The Oak Lawn Community High School fishing team looked a little shocked when walking into the Little Theater last Friday to the cheers of fellow students and a table loaded with fishing gear from a sporting goods company. Watch the video of the surprise award ceremony. The surprise ceremony honored OLCHS as the Fish and Outdoor Radio Show/Plano and Frabill’s “Illinois High Schools Fish Here” fishing team of the year. The Illinois High School Association established bass fishing as a high school sport at the beginning of the 2008-09 school year with 199 teams. After you get back, tell us what you think. Leave your review of the course and clubhouse on Patch.
Stony Creek Golf Course, which opened in 1994, was designed by Carl Getz in the mid-1980s to accompany the large practice facility and driving range already on the site. In the past 17 years, the look at Stony Creek hasn’t changed much in terms of the course layout. In a message on the Stony Creek website, Course Superintendent Tim Scott said the turf is still recovering from last season's drought. "We plan in April to aerify and fertilize greens, tees and fairways to keep up the health of these areas," he says. "This process will make the plants stronger to handle both the weather and traffic from golfers and carts." Take a look at images from U.S. Cellular Field as the Chicago White Sox kicked off the 2013 season, and see if you recognize a neighbor or two.
The smell of brats cooking on grills made its way through parking lot C off Shields Avenue. By 11 a.m. the beer was flowing. It was opening day on the southside. Chicago White Sox baseball is deep in traditions for southside families. With a growing number of baby bears in the south suburbs, it wasn't hard to find Sox fans from the North side. "I've been a lifelong Sox fan," says Dan Kochevar from Glen Ellyn. Brothers Tim and Dan Bergin from Chicago Heights hold a lifelong love for the Chicago White Sox. "We have been coming to the park since 1967," said Tim Bergin. "Of course it was Old Comiskey across the street. We have had some great memories. Remembering the 2005 season when the team beat Boston in the division." Dan Bergin …
