Police Investigating Fatal Driveway Accident Involving Husband and Wife - UPDATED

The accident occurred in the 10800 block of LaPorte Avenue in Oak Lawn in what police term a "terrible tragedy."

In what police are calling a tragic accident, an Oak Lawn man was hit by a car and killed in the driveway of his home Friday afternoon.  The man, who is in his 70s, was returning home with his wife to their home on the 10800 block of LaPorte Avenue around noon, Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann said.  The man got out of his car to open the gate to their driveway when his wife, thinking he was clear of the car backed in, running him over, Kaufmann said. He became trapped under the car and died at the scene. His wife was not injured, a police news release said. The incident does not appear to be criminal in nature and seems to be a "tragic accident," Kauffman said.  Part of LaPorte Avenue near 109th Street is closed to traffic…

Name of Driver Released in Fatal Car Crash

The 24-year-old driver had been charged with pot possession during a traffic stop last July, according to published reports.

Carlos Lomeli, 24, of the 10600 South Kilbourne Avenue, was declared dead on the scene when the Audi he was driving plowed into a resident’s garage in the 10400 block of Georgia Lane around 10:39 p.m. The original police news release gave the driver's age as 22. One Dead After Car Crashes Into Home - UPDATED

Car was traveling at high rate of speed when it left the road and crashed into residence, killing the 24-year-old driver and injuring two passengers. Homeowners are okay, police say.

Commissioner Daley Wields Power, Gets Funding for Traffic Signalization

Cook County Commissioner John Daley announces that county will fund full amount of traffic signalization project at Central Avenue and 93rd Street.

In an evening of stunning announcements, Cook County Commissioner made another appearance at Tuesday’s village board meeting. Daley announced that the county—with the blessing of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and the rest of the board—would pick up all of the costs of adding a left turn lane at 93rd Street and Central Avenue. Famous Dave’s didn't have a drive-through until Monday afternoon when a car drove through the dining room in the middle of the restaurant’s grand opening. Before a Honda Civic came crashing through the front plate glass windows, the new Famous Dave’s at 2851 W. 95th St. was doing a brisk grand opening day business. “The restaurant had a tremendous lunch and it carried on through the afternoon,” Famous Dave’s Vice President of Marketing Aric Nissen said. Pedestrian Hit by Truck At Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue

A female pedestrian was struck by a truck Thursday morning crossing the intersection of 93rd Street/Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue. Road will be closed for several more hours.

11:09 a.m. Press release from Oak Lawn Police. "On 05-24-12 at approximately 8:13 am Oak Lawn police and Fire units were dispatched to a pick-up truck vs pedestrian crash at Southwest highway and Cicero ave. Oak Lawn Illinois. Responding units found a severely injured pedestrian lying on Cicero ave. The driver of the pick-up truck was on the scene. The pedestrian was taken to Advocate Christ hospital with serious injuries. The information available at this time indicates the pedestrian was walking across Southwest Highway from the north to the south on the west side of Cicero ave. Truck Driver Cited in Crash That Caused Day-Long Traffic Snarl

Driver of truck that flipped will remember Oak Lawn for a long time.

The 36-year-old semi-truck driver was cited in Monday’s crash that shut down the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue for 12 hours. Check Patch's live traffic maps for rush hour report. Oak Lawn police said the driver was making a left turn eastbound on 95th Street from Cicero Avenue at approximately 10 a.m. when he struck a light pole adjacent to the White Castle restaurant, causing the truck to flip on its side. There were no injuries. The truck, owned by Industrial Container Services in Louisville, KY, was carrying a load of steel cable. The semi-trailer cracked in half when it fell. Truck Wreck Expected To Be Cleared from Cicero/95th By 8 p.m. Monday

At 6:30 p.m., a crew was transferring cargo from the downed truck to another truck. Police said it would take emergency crew about an hour to clear away the downed truck after it flipped over early Monday morning.

Crews were transferring steel cable from a downed semi-truck after it flipped over at the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero on Monday morning. Recovery crews said that the truck's semi-trailer when it cracked in half after it rolled over. The two pieces of the trailer were being held in place by a jack. Eastbound Lane of 95th Street Still Closed At Cicero After Truck Rollover

Progress being made on cleanup of Monday morning truck accident.

Clean-up of a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue is progressing after a semi-truck carrying a load of steel coil flipped on its side Monday morning.   As of 4 p.m., the truck cab had been righted, but crews were still figuring out how to remove the semi-trailer, that had folded in the center. The dent made the trailer difficult to move from the scene. The eastbound lanes of 95th Street were closed crossing the intersection as caution tape and sawhorses isolated the accident scene. Oak Lawn police officers are at the intersection directing traffic, but the eastbound lane of 95th Street on the southeast corner of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue adjacent to the White Castle restaurant remained closed. …

A semi-truck carrying a load of coils flipped on to its side as it was making a right turn on to 95th Street from Cicero Avenue. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. The accident occurred sometime after 10 a.m. Monday. Police and fire crews were on the scene. Oak Lawn Police Chief Bill Villanova said it appeared that the cause of the accident is still under investigation. There were no injuries. Villanova said crews were trying to figure out the best way to right the truck. Traffic is still open at the corner, although 95th Street has been reduced to one lane at the intersection heading eastbound. Traffic continues to flow through the intersection but it’s slow going.
