An Alsip resident won $1 million off an instant scratch ticket last week.
An Alsip woman is set to receive a hefty check after claiming her prize last week. Alice Griffin was out running errands in Blue Island when she decided to grab a $10 Cash Spectacular scratch ticket, according to a news release. She waited until the next day to scratch it. “When I play a scratch ticket, I don’t scratch the whole thing. I remove just enough to see my winning numbers. When I saw I had an “Auto win” I thought I had won $10 or so,” Griffin said in a news release. “When I saw it was $1 million, I was in disbelief! First thing I did was sign the back of my ticket. Four men try to rob bank in Alsip Monday morning, but flee empty-handed, FBI says.

Four alleged bank robbers—described by witnesses as being “very young”—tried to take over and rob an Alsip bank on Monday. The FBI said the robbery occurred around 9:50 a.m. at the Charter Bank, 12004 S. Pulaski Road. Witnesses said as two of the men waited in a customer line, the other two entered the bank, an FBI news release said. The four then announced a robbery to the bank and employees and customers. One of the men jumped over the teller counter in an attempt to get money. No weapons were ever shown and there were no injuries. Smoke billowed over Cicero Avenue behind the D-Lux Budget Motel as firefighters doused a tractor-trailer carrying automobiles that caught fire Friday around 2 p.m.
Alsip firefighters doused burning cars, SUVs and a pickup truck on a the back of a tractor-trailer after several caught fire Friday afternoon, just before 2 p.m. The smoke could be seen over Cicero Avenue for miles as traffic backed up in both directions. The trailer was in a lot south of the D Lux Budget Motel, in the 12400 block of Cicero Avenue. Patch will update as details become available.
