Marist 58, Mother McAuley 53: Asianna Bey and Claire Ryan stepped up their play in the third quarter as the RedHawks rallied on their home floor to remain undefeated.
The Skinny: Not here. Not now. Marist’s Asianna Bey and Claire Ryan were not about to let Mother McAuley have its way in a girls basketball rivalry matchup played before a near-capacity crown on Monday night at Marist. Bey scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter of the RedHawks’ 58-53 come-from-behind victory. She also grabbed 14 rebounds and converted one into a putback basket with 46.1 seconds left to finish the scoring in a wild back-and-forth affair. Ryan added seven of her 11 points in the third quarter as Marist used a 19-2 run to turn the tables on Mother McAuley. Patch’s MVP: Asianna Bey, 6-1, senior, forward, Marist. Bey scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter. She also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Key …

Asianna Bey brings a powerful punch to Marist girls basketball frontline. Lincoln-Way East, Homewood-Flossmoor and Lincoln-Way North are poised to pounce in weekly Patch Power Rankings.
1. Marist (11-0): Asianna Bey gives the RedHawks a powerful presence down low, too. Bey controlled the paint in a 47-43 victory over Marian Catholic. 2. Lincoln-Way East (7-0): The Griffins begin defense of their Medieval Classic crown vs. Plainfield South on Dec. 26. 3. Homewood-Flossmoor (9-3): Western Illinois recruit Charnelle Reed topped the 1,000-point barrier in a loss to Lincoln-Way East. 4. Lincoln-Way North (10-2): Ashley Weringa, Sam Pietruszynski and Taylor Boardman can play some ‘D’ and the three have the Phoenix poised to make more noise at the Medieval Classic. 5. Rich Central (11-3 ): Tatiana Newell scored 24 points in a 71-33 victory over Kankakee. Next for the Rockets is the Hillcrest Holiday Classic Dec. 27-29. Next best…

In what Marist coach Mary Pat Connoly called an 'odd' game, the RedHawks finished strong to seal their 47-43 victory over Marian Catholic on Monday night.
When the Marist RedHawks and the Marian Catholic Spartans take the court in girls basketball, it's a good bet you can throw the records out. The rivalry between the two squads is always fierce. On Monday in Chicago Heights, the two teams dueled to the final buzzer. At the end, though, it was Marist's low-post presence that sealed the game for a 47-43 RedHawks victory. “We're glad we won; we survived,” Marist coach Mary Pat Connolly said. “We're big conference rivals, we're big South Side rivals, so it's going to be an 'odd' game. The whole game is going to be odd because of the rivalry. If it was somebody else, the game would've ran smoother … They gave us a good run.” As for the RedHawks effort in the low post, it came as no surprise to …

Marist 47, Marian Catholic 43: Low post presence, scoring push RedHawks past Spartans in Chicago Heights.
The Skinny: Marist's team height was the story of the game for the RedHawks, who came into their girls basketball game with Marian Catholic on Monday night ready for battle. The post presence of the RedHawks powered the team, as nearly every timely rebound found its way into a RedHawks' hands. Marian kept the game close in their home gym with an uptempo style, but Marist's post dominance proved to be too much in its 47-43 victory. Patch’s MVP: Marist's Asianna Bey finished with nine points in the victory, but more importantly held Marian's Megan Walsh, who was averaging 20 points, to 14. Bey was dominant in the paint. Key Stats: Aside from outrebounding the Spartans, Marist also got to the free throw line more than three times as much as …
