'Hail to the Chief'

Mayor, clerk and trustees thank retiring Oak Lawn Police Chief Bill Villanova for a job well done.

Since he joined the Oak Lawn Police Department as a rookie patrol officer, one day has always loomed in the distant future: April 1, 2013. That’s the day that was set as the retirement date for Oak Lawn Police Chief William V. Villanova Jr. who retires next week after a 36-year career in law enforcement marked by bravery, leadership and cool professionalism. Public Safety Town Hall Educates, Dispells Local Facebook Rumors

Oak Lawn Police chief discusses 2012 crime stats, gangs and other high profile criminal cases.

In their continuing tour of the village, members of the Oak Lawn Police Department addressed 50 residents who turned out on a rainy Tuesday night for a public safety town hall at Harnew Elementary School. The community meetings are part of a citizen-driven planning process initiated by Mayor Dave Heilmann that will guide village crime department efforts. Also sitting in the audience were Trustees Cindy Trautsch (Dist. 1) and Alex Olejniczak (Dist. 2) and Bob Streit (Dist. 3). The mayor, Trautsch and Olejniczak are up for reelection in April. It is nice to see some positive information about Oak Lawn. Mostly I read comments from most people on this site and they are very negative. Many of the news stories are also very negative. Again, nice to see some positive information.   more ›
