Oak Lawn DUI Arrests: May 11-18

A roundup of local drunken driving arrests in Oak Lawn.

SATURDAY MAY 18  The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving around 9:45 p.m. when the car was spotted swerving over the line markers on 95th Street between Southwest Highway and 54th Avenue, reports said. The officer said he waited several moments for the driver, identified as Arletta Y. Simms Moore, 54, of Chicago Ridge, to roll down the window. Moore told police she was on her way to pick up a family member at work, reports said. Police said Moore needed assistance locating her insurance card from a stack of papers. During field sobriety tests, she allegedly admitted to drinking “unknown amounts of vodka” earlier in the evening. Moore submitted a preliminary breath sample of .144 after numerous …

Robbers Force Woman To Withdraw Money from ATM

Robbers confront woman in shopping center parking lot, then marched her over to Walgreen's where they made her withdraw $500, cops say.

A 38-year-old woman filed a delayed police report after being confronted by three robbers in a parking lot who forced her to withdraw money from an ATM, reports said. Oak Lawn police are investigating a robbery that occurred around 2 p.m. May 6, where a woman says the robbers confronted her in a shopping center parking lot at 8700 S. Sting Nets Gas Station Employee in Synthetic Pot Sale, Cops Say

Cops shut down an Oak Lawn gas station after confidential source makes synthetic pot buy, reports say.

A gas station clerk was arrested after a confidential source purchased synthetic cannabis in a sale arranged by police, reports said. Muhammed K. Qandil, 18, of the 8700 block of South Oak Park Avenue, faces charges of delivery and possession of a controlled substance. Oak Lawn Police arranged a purchase after hearing of a confidential source buying K2 cannabinoids from various clerks at the Citgo station at 6801 W. 87th St. over the past several weeks, reports said. The only thing I like to say is as one who more and more takes a libertarian view of things in the US, I have to say if I were in trouble I'd never want to not be able to have an attorney represent me. BLOTTER: Sex Offender Nabbed on Warrant, Dunkin’ in the Tip Jar

FRIDAY APRIL 19 A Hometown cop detained a man wanted on a sex offense at the 7-Eleven at 4501 W. 95th St. around 6:28 p.m. for Oak Lawn police. A name check indicated that Leron Hampton, 38, was wanted on a no-bond warrant, police said. Hampton was taken to the Oak Lawn police station where he was being held for Cook County Sheriff’s Police. TUESDAY APRIL 16 A fast-food employee was charged with theft after police said he stole tip money from the Dunkin’ Donuts at 10301 S. Central Ave. The manager provided surveillance video taken between April 8 and April 16 showing Antonio Heffner, 30, of South Holland, using sleight of hand to pocket cash while working the drive-through window, reports said. Double Bust at Hooters

An off-duty police officer breaks up two separate dine-and-dash attempts at Hooters, cops say.

Diners were charged in two separate thefts after they attempted to run out of an Oak Lawn restaurant without paying their bill, reports said. Oak Lawn police responded to a reported dine-and-dash at Hooters at 9159 S. Cicero Ave. around 10:21 April 30. A table of three women and one man finished eating their meal and were talking amongst themselves when they all got up and left without paying their $91.30 tab, police said. An employee notified the off-duty police officer working security that the party of four was leaving in a blue Chevy Equinox, according to the report. Court Records: Accused Fondler Has Long Rap Sheet

Oak Lawn man charged with fondling and exposing himself near a Mt. Greenwood school has beat child abduction and distributing harmful material to minor raps, court records show.

The Oak Lawn man accused of fondling and exposing himself near a school in Mt. Greenwood last week has an extensive arrest history, according to court records. Daniel M. Vorberg, 30, of the 5000 block of 101st Street in Oak Lawn, was charged with two counts of indecent exposure after two adults claim they saw him allegedly masturbating and exposing his penis while sitting in a parked car on April 30. He was arrested the next afternoon in Oak Lawn, after a picture of his car and license plate was posted on local Facebook groups where it was quickly disseminated among neighbors. A couple may have interrupted some prowlers after the wife spotted a man lurking in her neighbor's back yard, reports said. Oak Lawn Police responded to a call of suspicious person running from a residence in the 9500 block of South Kolmar Avenue around 8:44 a.m. April 22. Oak Lawn DUI Arrests: April 13-15

Urinating during traffic stop and having an open bottle of Jim Beam are not ways to get on cops' good side, according to Oak Lawn police reports.

MONDAY APRIL 15 Police clocked a Chevy Tahoe driving 55mph in a 35mph zone around 12:59 a.m., reports said. Officers observed the driver, identified as Johnathon Jackson, 22, of Chicago, allegedly changing lanes without signalizing and driving erratically and nearly hitting another car. Officers said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. Jackson told police he was on his way to a Holiday Inn. While officers where checking Jackson’s license, police said he got out of his car and started urinating by the side of the street. He was told repeatedly to get back in his car, reports said. SATURDAY APRIL 13 A 21-year-old Chicago man was taken into custody and charged with driving on suspended license, no proof of insurance and open alcohol at 95th Street and Cicero Avenue. Police saw some type of disturbance taking place in a car driven as it traveled southbound on Cicero Avenue from 91st Street around 3:43 a.m. While speaking to the driver, identified as Juan Gonzalez, police noticed that backseat passenger had two open, 40-ounce bottles of Cobra malt liquor at his feet, reports said. Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the Oak Lawn police station. Police citied the passenger with open alcohol by a passenger in a car. 2 Charged in Guns, Ammo Burglary, Cops Say

Men gave themselves up after cops surrounded home. Stolen property recovered at scene, cops say.

Two men accused of stealing guns, ammo and lawn mowers from a Brandt Avenue home on April 9 have been charged with residential burglary, Oak Lawn Police said. Anthony Grasso, 20, and James Pelikan, 25, were both taken into custody after the two gave themselves up after police surrounded a home in the 9600 block of Brandt Avenue the next day.
