Oak Lawn 65, Rich East 60: LaTondra Brooks scored 21 points and the Spartans used productive offensive possessions late to defeat a speedy Rockets squad on Monday night in play at the Oak Lawn tourney.
The Skinny: Oak Lawn used an 8-2 run to close out Monday night's 65-60 girls basketball victory over Rich East in play at the Spartans' Holiday Invitational. It took the Spartans a while to adjust to the Rockets' run-and-gun style. And it seemed the game was over for the Spartans when LaTondra Brooks missed three free throws with about 30 seconds left in the third quarter, but Brooks was instrumental as Oak Lawn fought back in the fourth quarter. The game was tied four times in the second half before Oak Lawn pulled ahead for the final time. The Spartans used clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Patch MVP: Oak Lawn's LaTondra Brooks led all scorers with 21 points. She also had five rebounds, three steals and one…

Oak Lawn 67, Oak Forest 59: The Spartans consistently pushed the tempo and LaTondra Brooks and Brooke Annerino combined to score 45 points in the host team's victory.
The Skinny: Oak Lawn turned Thursday’s basketball game into a track meet, pushing the ball in transition consistently and coming away with a 67-59 victory over visiting Oak Forest. The sophomore duo of Brooke Annerino and LaTondra Brooks combined to score 45 points for the Spartans. Oak Forest dug itself a seven-point halftime deficit, partly due to nine first-half turnovers. The Bengals got within five points several times in the second half, but couldn’t close the deficit further. Oak Lawn overcame late turnover issues to put away the Bengals in the fourth quarter. Patch’s MVP: Oak Lawn’s LaTondra Brooks. The 5-foot-6 sophomore guard was electric on both ends of the court. When Brooks wasn’t scoring, she was pushing the ball in …

Spartans senior Bridget Niemiec tallies a double-double; Foley adds 16 and Sheeran scores 12 in win over Titans.
Bridget Niemiec put on an all-around talent show in Oak Lawn's 60-54 overtime victory over Tinley Park in a South Suburban Conference girls basketball thriller on Thursday night. Spartans overcome foul trouble and use an 8-0 run at the end of third quarter to knock off Knights.
The undersized Oak Lawn girls basketball team expected a difficult task in trying to outrebound Chicago Christian on Tuesday night. The Spartans didn't anticipate having to do so with a few of their top players spending significant time on the bench due to foul trouble. Still, the Spartans used their quickness to force 22 turnovers and fared far better at the free throw line than the Knights did, taking control late in the third quarter to win 47-38 in a non-conference contest. "We've had a lot of close games but don't seem to be able to stay in them to finish them," Chicago Christian coach Linda Stuursma said. "In the second half, (Oak Lawn) came out wanting it more. They wanted to win it more and it showed." Chicago Christian (4-12) …

Kiera Currie's double-double helps Romeoville tip Oak Lawn 53-51 in overtime to advance to Oak Lawn Holiday Tournament title game.
It was a battle of the Spartans on Tuesday night as Romeoville and Oak Lawn squared off in girls basketball for the right to advance to the championship game of the Oak Lawn Holiday Tournament. Kiera Currie, a sophomore center/forward, put up the three points in overtime that Romeoville needed to beat Oak Lawn 53-51. "I'm just happy to leave here with a win," Romeoville coach Julio Carrasco said. "It was a bad game all around. We made some adjustments early, but they came back and countered our adjustments. We couldn't get into the flow of the offense." Romeoville (6-5) advances to the tournament championship game against Lincoln-Way North at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. "Lincoln-Way North is a big team," Carrasco said. "We've got to get more …

On Pink Out night at Oak Lawn, Spartans take down Bremen 65-20, raise funds for trainer Krista Mannion's battle against breast cancer.
The fans, coaches and players were decked out in pink Thursday night in support of Oak Lawn athletic trainer and teacher Krista Mannion's ongoing battle with breast cancer. Oak Lawn officials sold more than 800 T-shirts and nearly 1,000 people showed up to watch as the Spartans easily handled Bremen 65-20 in girls basketball action. Oak Lawn (4-5) was led by senior Michaela Sheeran's 12 points and freshman Brooke Annerino's 10 off the bench. In fact, all but one Spartan got in on the scoring act. The Braves (1-9) were held to just two points in the entire second half as Oak Lawn's defense put the game away. The Braves were led by Sarah Webster's eight points. "I played well tonight, and I got a good look at the basket to get some good …

Kelly Foley leads Oak Lawn past Joliet West in the Andrew Girls Turkey Tourney.
Oak Lawn's girls basketball team appeared well on its way to its first win of the season on Saturday as the Spartans took a 16-point lead against Joliet West late in the second quarter in the Andrew Girls Turkey Tourney. But instead of cruising to victory in the second half, the Spartans saw the Tigers battle back and cut the lead to two points — at 53-51. In the end, the Spartans escaped with a 54-51 victory in Tinley Park. "I was frustrated that we let them back into the game, but you know I was happy when we did things right," Oak Lawn coach Janet Haubenreiser said. "We took care of the ball on the press, we had a breakaway we took advantage of and we made our free throws when we needed to." Oak Lawn (1-2) trailed 12-11 early in the …
