Richards 37, Lincoln-Way North 14. The Bulldogs jumped out to a huge lead and never let up in a Class 6A playoff battle.

The Bulldogs ground game and stout redzone defense prove to be too much for the Spartans at Oak Lawn Community High School.
Breaking It Down: Richards' tailback Tommy Mister and the rest of the Bulldogs offense ground opened the game with two touchdown drives, of 51- and 58-yards respectively. Mister totaled 74 yards and two scores on the drives, putting the Bulldogs up 12-0 with 3:40 left in the first quarter. Richards added another touchdown on a Hasan Muhammad-Rogers to Ryan Willett pass to make it 18-0 at the half, but the fight wasn't gone from Oak Lawn. The Spartans charged out of the gates to open the second half, dominating the time of possession in the third quarter and finally pushing across the goal line on a Bob Olsen touchdown to Drew Everett. However, the Spartans squandered two golden opportunities in the redzone late when the Bulldogs clamped …

Close friends, great music and plenty of dancing made for homecoming to be remembered.
Just before 7 p.m. rolled around on Saturday, Richards High School students began arriving at the school gynasium tranformed into a "City of Lights," dressed in their finest attire for the 2011 homecoming dance. Sparkles, gravity defying heels and mini-length dresses seemed to be the trend this year, with many dresses adorned with sequins. Some girls opted to wear to sensible flats or flip flops with their formal dresses. Oak Lawn Patch asked some students what excited them most about the homecoming dance. "I like the dancing," said Richards junior Mike Dewar. He wasn't alone. Kristina Apato couldn't wait to get inside and start dancing. She was excited to hear the music that was provided by DJ Nick Bana of Dance Party DJ's. Juniors …

The Richards Bulldogs may have gotten sent home with their tails between their legs, but the fans had a great time.
There were other football games being played in Oak Lawn on Friday night besides the Pulaski Road Super Bowl. The Richards Bulldogs got stomped by the Morris Redskins, 28-16, at Korhonen Field. Richards was done in by four turnovers early on, as Morris quickly took control of the game. The Bulldogs were never a threat. The Bulldogs were blanked until the fourth quarter, when Brian Hettiger and Danny Gardner scored a pair of touchdowns, followed by a two-point conversion. It was the end of a long muggy evening and the Redskins ran out of steam. Richards Coach Tony Sheehan said the first half killed them. He said while every game is a learning experience, the Bulldogs need to learn they can’t make mistakes. “We’re not good enough to turn the…

With two returning seniors coming back for the 2012 season, Richards is hoping to foster better team chemistry and leadership in the offseason.
Tricia Tuxford recognizes the importance of summer league soccer. Nursing an ankle injury and coming off a high school season that just ended in mid-May, Tuxford–a rising senior at Richards--was still out there in the 90-degree heat playing in her normal role as sweeper. “We use this to get prepared for regular season because we have a bunch of new girls coming up,” Tuxford said. “This really helps us out because at practice we have to condition and get better touches on the ball.” Richards graduated 10 seniors off a team that made it to the regional semifinals last season, eventually falling to Sandburg, a sectional finalist. Tuxford and forward/midfielder Desiree Rores are the only two seniors back for Richards in 2012. Their relative …

Bulldogs shortstop Joe Lyons made an adjustment to his batting stance and enjoyed immediate benefits.
Sometimes it’s the minor adjustments that make all the difference. Joe Lyons, a senior shortstop at Richards, changed his batting stance in the middle of last week, and he already has been reaping the benefits. Before the Bulldogs’ game against Oak Forest on Thursday, Lyons opened up his front leg a little bit so he could see the pitcher better. “It’s been working out for me, so I’m going to stay that way,” Lyons said. “Hopefully I’ll end up hitting really well this year.” Lyons finished the week 4-for-10 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. He helped the Bulldogs defeat crosstown rival Oak Lawn twice. In their matchup on Friday, a 14-2 win for Richards, Lyons had a home run and an RBI single. In recognition of his efforts, …

Girls soccer junior Desiree Rores scores four goals and has four assists to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 week.
The Richards girls soccer team is figuring out its formula for success. After an 0-7 start to the season, the Bulldogs went 4-1 this past week. Junior Desiree Rores scored four goals and had four assists to lead Richards, which capped the week off with a consolation championship at the Reavis Invite on Saturday. “We started out a little rough because there are a lot of new people,” Rores said of the season. “After we started to get together and practice more, we got a lot better working together.” Richards defeated Queen of Peace 2-0 Saturday afternoon to claim the championship. Rores scored twice despite the wind and rain. “This past week was amazing,” Rores said. “Everybody really brought it. It was nice to see everybody go all out.” In …
