Police Search Neighborhood for Prowlers

Couple saw prowlers hide in neighbor's yard. Police discover fresh pry marks, reports say.

A couple may have interrupted some prowlers after the wife spotted a man lurking in her neighbor's back yard, reports said. Oak Lawn Police responded to a call of suspicious person running from a residence in the 9500 block of South Kolmar Avenue around 8:44 a.m. April 22. The caller said she was sitting in her upstairs office when she observed a gray or dark beige car pull up in front of her house. 2 Charged in Guns, Ammo Burglary, Cops Say

Men gave themselves up after cops surrounded home. Stolen property recovered at scene, cops say.

Two men accused of stealing guns, ammo and lawn mowers from a Brandt Avenue home on April 9 have been charged with residential burglary, Oak Lawn Police said. Anthony Grasso, 20, and James Pelikan, 25, were both taken into custody after the two gave themselves up after police surrounded a home in the 9600 block of Brandt Avenue the next day. Police: Two Men Taken Into Custody After Brief Pursuit

Schools put on soft lock down as police take two men into custody for questioning in possible home burglary near 97th Street and Brandt Avenue.

Two men were taken into custody on Wednesday morning after a brief pursuit that put neighborhood schools on soft lockdown. An alert Oak Lawn K9 police officer spotted a red SUV that matched the description of a vehicle reported near the scene of a burglary in the 9700 block of West Brandt Avenue on April 9. When the officer stopped to talk to the driver around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, the driver ran into a house in the 9600 block of West Brandt. Blotter: Burglar Empties Rooms, Bizarre Trespasser

Oak Lawn police reports, Feb. 28 to March 4.

MONDAY, MARCH 4 While a couple was out to dinner, burglars used a crowbar to pry their way into the couple’s home in the 5600 block of West 99th Place sometime before 7:30 p.m. Police said three bedrooms were ransacked. The homeowner said he was missing some watches, his social security card, costume jewelry and $1,000 in cash. Police said that the homeowner’s wife’s wallet was stolen at another restaurant in Worth where they were dining five to seven days before. The couple did not file a police report for the stolen wallet. POLICE BLOTTER: Burglars Hit Auto Shops, Love Gone Awry

Oak Lawn police reports, Jan. 11 to Jan. 14.

  MONDAY, JANUARY 14 Burglars used an ornamental rock to break into Amerimex service station at 9600 Southwest Highway. The owner discovered the break-in when he showed up for work around 8:04 a.m. Police said that glass sections of the front entry door had been broken out around the doorknob. It is believed the burglars reached in and unlocked the door from the inside. Oak Lawn Man Charged With 2nd Burr Ridge Burglary Since October

Kenneth N. Jackson, of Oak Lawn, was charged with two counts of residential burglary Wednesday after he was charged for a separate burglary last October.

An Oak Lawn man was charged with a Burr Ridge residential burglary for the second time in just more than three months after he was taken into custody Wednesday, Burr Ridge Police Chief John Madden announced Friday in a release. Kenneth N. Jackson, 53, whose last known address is in the 9800 block of South Keeler Avenue, Oak Lawn, was charged with two Class 1 felony counts of residential burglary, the police department release reads. One burglary happened in the 0-10 block of Longwood Drive in Burr Ridge during the overnight hours between Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, and another took place in Orland Park last August.  Jackson's name might sound familiar. Chicago Ridge Deputy Fire Chief Charged With Attempted Murder

Deputy fire chief faces multiple charges after police say he attacked a woman in a Tinley Park home invasion.

A Tinley Park woman was attacked in her home in the early morning hours of Saturday by a man wielding a knife. Police arrested a man matching the description of the attacker in the condominium parking lot who they identifed as Gary M. Swiercz.  Connect with Patch: Evergreen Park / Oak Lawn / Beverly-Mt. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26 Thieves broke the window of a Dodge van parked on the 10100 block of South Mansfield Avenue sometime before 7:38 p.m. A GPS unit was stolen. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25  A family came home from a Christmas party around 10:58 p.m. only to discover that their home in the 10000 block of South Cook Avenue had been burglarized. Police said the family had been gone about six hours. The burglars entered through the door off the back deck by kicking in the door. The blinds had also been drawn when they’re usually left open. Blotter: Grinch Swipes Christmas Decorations, Presents from Tree

Oak Lawn police reports, Dec. 13.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13 A homeowner reported one of her decorative trees missing from her front yard in the 10800 block of South Kenneth Avenue. The homeowner said all the trees in her front yard were accounted from when left home around 6 a.m. When the homeowner returned home later in the evening, she discovered that one of the trees was missing. Police say someone disconnected the missing tree by unplugging it from a second larger tree. The tree is approximately two feet tall, white, and contains numerous multi-colored lights. The officer drove around the area looking for tree and noticed several identical or similar trees in the yards of nearby homes. Police Solve Year-Old Burglary Case with DNA

DNA evidence recovered from a flashlight recovered at scene of burglary against elderly couple leads to charges against jailed Alsip man.

Oak Lawn police solved a year-old residential burglary against an elderly couple by tracing DNA evidence on a flashlight that was dropped at the crime scene. Police charged Mark Stanko, 27, of Alsip with one count of felony burglary stemming from an Oak Lawn burglary on Aug. 4, 2011. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts.
