CAR BURGLARIES: Handgun Stolen from Unlocked Car and MORE

Oak Lawn car burglaries Jan. 31 through Feb. 13.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 13 A 2005 Nissan Pathfinder was parked in the lot at LA Fitness, 8812 S. Cicero Ave., when someone smashed the front passenger window sometime before 7:55 p.m. The thief removed a tote bag on the front passenger floorboard. SUNDAY FEBRUARY 10 A 43-year-old woman who is a security officer reported that someone entered her Ford Edge parked in the 4900 block of West Wick Drive. According to the report, the security officer’s duty handgun, which was in a lock box on the rear floor, and GPS unit were both stolen sometime before 2:48 p.m. Police said the security officer thinks her remote starter control unit malfunctioned and prevented her doors from unlocking. ‘Unbreakins’: Thieves Rob Unlocked Cars

Oak Lawn car burglaries, Jan. 12 through Jan. 14.

MONDAY JANUARY 14  Thieves hit an unlocked 2008 Toyota van parked in the 9400 block of South Kolmar Ave. sometime before 6:08 p.m. Police said a GPS unit was stolen. SUNDAY JANUARY 13  Someone entered a 1992 Jeep Comanche in the 10000 block of South Major Avenue and swiped a pair of Rayban sunglasses sometime before 2:15 p.m. SATURDAY JANUARY 12 A man who typically leaves his car unlocked noticed that someone entered his car and removed $2 worth of change sometime before 11:50 a.m. The owner said his glovebox was also tossed. The car was parking in the 5600 block of 98th Place. Police said the two other car burglaries occurred on the same block.  A woman claims to have locked her car on before going into her home. Car Burglaries Pick Up With Approaching Holidays

Five car burglaries in three days reported in Oak Lawn.

MONDAY, Nov. 12 Oak Lawn police assisted Burbank cops in investigating two juveniles alleged to be responsible for swiping a GPD navigation unit from a car parked in the 9300 block of South Sayre Avenue. Police spoke to the resident around 1:27 a.m. and asked if he was missing a GPS unit. The resident looked through the car window and saw that the center console and had been opened and rifled through. The glove box was also open. Officers said the resident was unaware anything was missing from his car until police contacted him. The resident said that two GPS units were missing and was asked to go to Burbank police to identify them. Burbank police had two male juveniles, both 17, from Hickory Hills. Mapping out car burglaries in Oak Lawn.

Oak Lawn police reported eight car burglaries which took place over five days during the first week of August. Of those, four burglaries occurred from cars that were unlocked; four were breakins.
