Gun-Toting Bandit Robs Chase Bank

Police say there was five-minute delay in reporting robbery while employees first contacted corporate security per bank policy.

A man wearing a scarf and sunglasses to conceal his face and wielding a black handgun robbed the Chase bank branch at 10545 S. Cicero Ave. on Friday morning. Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann said the bandit walked into the bank shortly after 10 a.m. and displayed a gun before escaping with an undisclosed amount of money. The robber was last seen running through the McDonald’s parking lot across the street from the bank. Police called in canines to search the area but the dogs lost the scent on the street off of 106th Street and Kilpatrick. “More than likely he got into a car,” Kaufmann said. FBI Steps Up Search for Bank Bandit

FBI searches for bank robber believed to be responsible for Chicago bank robbery, and possibly the Oak Lawn Chase Bank robbery in December.

FBI officials are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man they’re calling the “Man in Black” robber, who is believed responsible for the armed robbery of at least one Chicago-area bank. In what has been described as a “takeover robbery,” the “Man in Black” robber (originally dubbed the ‘Helmet Bandit’ by Oak Lawn Patch) held up a Citibank branch at 5674 S. Archer Ave. on April 6, 2011. FBI officials said the robber motioned as though he was gong to take off the motorcycle helmet, but instead reached into his jacket and pulled out a small, semi-automatic handgun and a black draw-string bag. Bank Employee Sensed Robbery Was To Take Place and Hid

Oak Lawn police report reveals new details from last week's Chase Bank robbery.

A bank employee hid in a back room when she sensed something amiss about a customer who would not remove his motorcycle helmet after he entered the bank. An Oak Lawn police report sheds more light on the helmeted bandit who robbed a Chase Bank branch on Dec. 8. The FBI believes the robbery may be related to one that took place in April, when a man used the same disguise to rob a Citibank in Chicago. Oak Lawn police responded to a call of a bank robbery that had just occurred, involving a white male wearing a black motorcycle helmet and armed with a handgun that had just fled the on foot. Police blanketed the area searching for the bandit with no success. Approximately 15 people were inside the bank, including three customers, around 10:11 …

Serial Bandit Linked to Oak Lawn Bank Robbery

The helmet-wearing bandit suspected of robbing the Chase Bank in Oak Lawn may also have struck a Chicago bank in April.

The FBI released surveillance photos of the suspect in Thursday’s robbery of an Oak Lawn bank—and it appears he may have struck before. According to Oak Lawn police, a white male wearing a black motorcycle helmet robbed the Chase Bank at 5704 W. 95th St. at 10:11 a.m. Witnesses said the bandit approached a teller window wielding a small black handgun and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. A man using a similar disguise—a black motorcycle helmet—is suspected of robbing a Citibank branch at 5674 S. Archer Ave., in Chicago, on April 6. The FBI has linked him to the Oak Lawn robbery. 'Helmet Bandit' Robs Chase Bank

Oak Lawn bank robbed Thursday morning. Witnesses tell police the bandit fled in a black car, possibly driven by an accomplice, southbound down Major Avenue.

A man decked out in black and wearing a motorcycle helmet robbed the Chase Bank at 5705 W. 95th St. on Thursday morning. Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann said a white man, possibly Hispanic, walked into the bank around 10 a.m. and approached a teller. Wielding a small, black handgun, the man demanded money. There were no injuries. “That’s all we have at this point. It’s been turned over to the FBI,” Kaufmann said. Kaufmann said it was unknown how much money the bandit may have gotten away with. “They have to do their accounting to find out how much money is gone,” he said. Witnesses described the bank robber as wearing a black denim jacket, black pants and black boots. He wore a black motorcycle helmet on his head. Oak Lawn …
