Good afternoon Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff, families, friends, and graduates: today is a bittersweet day. While today marks the beginning of a new chapter of our lives, it is also the end of our high school career, our glory days. Because of our teachers here and the people in our lives who have supported us throughout these four years, we have been given the opportunity to experience this amazing place. I have grown tremendously these past four years, and I can say with confidence that everyone graduating today has also been impacted by the McAuley experience. From this experience, I have discovered three life lessons that embody the essence of Mother McAuley. Life lesson number one: When one door closes, another …
Hear Lauren Gabel's favorite moments from school.
Graduation season may be over, but Patch would still like to congratulate the Class of 2011 for crossing into the next journey of life. We caught up with Mother McAuley valedictorian, Lauren Gabel, to hear all about her most fond high school memories and plans for the future. Evergreen Park Patch: What was your most memorable High School moment? Lauren Gabel: My most memorable high school moment was attending the McAuley Spring 2011 Appalachia Mission Trip. We were able to fix up a family's house, including giving a young girl her very own, personalized bedroom. We also participated in many cultural activities, including a townhall dance and going to mass at the local Church. Patch: What extra curricular activities did you participate in? …

Brother Rice's 2011 Valedictorian Connor Fitzgerald shares with Patch his high school memories, future plans and advice to younger students.
With less than a week out of school, Brother Rice High School graduate and 2011 valedictorian Connor Fitzgerald has big plans for the future. He paused to tell Patch all about them, his favorite high school memories and advice for incoming freshman. Evergreen Park Patch: What was your most memorable High School moment? Connor Fitzgerald: My most memorable high school moment is without a doubt being a counselor at the Edmund Rice Camp. I had an amazing time spending my week with the less fortunate grammar school students in the area- they are some of the friendliest and warm-hearted kids I have ever met and it helped me to become a more appreciative person. Patch: What extra curricular activities did you participate in ? Fitzgerald: …

Seniors say, 'goodbye yellow' and black 'brick road.' Hello college, armed forces and working life.
Yellow and black. Two colors near opposite ends of the spectrum that you wouldn't think of putting together, except when students at Richards High School dawned them proudly during graduation on Thursday night. After four years of academics, clubs, sports and social life, students said goodbye to their high school lives and hello to the future. Many will head off to college, some will join the armed forces and others will hit the ground working. But as they move on to to bigger-and-better things, the Class of 2011 couldn't help but smile, hug their friends and listen to their families shout from the bleachers. Patch will have more on the Richards High School commencement ceremony, later. Add your photos and videos of the Richards High …

Heading off to college. Two of Marist High School's finest discuss their experiences and future plans.
Hundreds of snapshots, smiles and goodbyes floated through Marist High School last week. It was a bittersweet evening for the Class of 2011 and their parents – one when teachers and administrators alike told graduates they'll always have a home at MHS. And for the school's valedictorian and salutatorian, it was the last time they represented their high school as students. “I'm always going to love Marist, and the people I met,” said salutatorian Jennifer Corcoran, who recalled her time as a cross-country runner, student ambassador and Pro-Life club member. Along with academics, Corcoran pointed out, joining clubs influenced her social skills for the better. “It sounds cliché, but get involved,” Corcoran said. “Many of my friends were from …
