Unruly Patrons Break Mirror in Bar, Cops Say

Two people charged after throwing shot glasses at Oak Lawn Tavern, police say.

Oak Lawn police arrested two people after they allegedly threw items around an Oak Lawn bar and broke a mirror, reports said. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and follow us on Facebook. An employee at St. James Place at 5305 W. 95th St. told police she was waiting on customers, when a woman identified as Michelle C. McKeown, 24, requested a glass of water. When the employee told McKeown it would take a minute because she was busy, police said that McKeown became “belligerent” and threw a shot glass at the employee. Both McKeown and the man she was with, Eric Fred Sokolewicz, 28, were told they had to leave immediately, reports said. POLICE BLOTTER: Clean Cut Hooligans Smash Windshield and MORE

Oak Lawn police reports, Oct. 25 through Oct. 28.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 A woman claims she was stopped at a traffic light at Central Avenue and 95th Street around 3:23 a.m. when a Pontiac Grand Am stopped in the lane next to her. Police said three male blacks in dark hoodies got out of the car and whacked her rear windshield with an unknown object. The windshield shattered and the alleged offenders got back into the Pontiac and drove northbound on Central Avenue. The woman said she last saw the car at Major Avenue and 88th Street. Oak Lawn and Burbank police were not able to locate the car. The car is registered to an address in Alsip. Alsip police checked the address but didn’t find the car. POLICE BLOTTER: Disrespectful Gang Graffiti, Dog Mounting

Oak Lawn police reports, Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2 A homeowner reported that someone had spray painted purple gang graffiti on the side of his detached garage in the 4900 block of West 91st Place sometime before 6:04 p.m. Police said the graffiti was unreadable but appeared to have an upside down “A” showing disrespect for the Ambrose street gang. A woman walking her dog on the 9200 block of South Melvina Avenue around 9:15 a.m. reported that a large, black dog ran toward her and tried to mount her dog. Police scanned the offending dog’s microchip and learned that dog’s name was Harley. Police contacted the owner who gave them permission to put Harley back in the house. Orland Park Man Destroys Borrowed Phone, Cops Say

Man asked to use business's cordless phone, than smashed it. Admitted to being drunk and high on synthetic pot, police said.

Oak Lawn police said that a man absconded with a store’s cordless phone after borrowing it to make a call. Subscribe to the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Police responded to Honeycuts at 5172 W. 95th St. around 8 p.m. Sept. 20. Informed by the business owner that a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt was in possession of the salon’s cordless phone, police searched the block. According to the report, a salon employee said that a man indentified as Timothy Saxton, 21, of Orland Park, came into the shop and asked to borrow the phone. Saxton went out to the sidewalk. Oak Lawn police reports, Sept. 2-5.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 A man was found armed with a stun gun and baton after he allegedly caused a disturbance inside of the Corner Bakery at 9621 S. Cicero Ave. Oak Lawn police responded to a report of a man arguing with another patron around 7 p.m. According to the report, the man took an object out of his backpack and placed in his back pocket, reports said. Police said a man identified as Bernard M. Byrne, 53, of the 4900 block of West 87th Street, was sitting in the patio area when they arrived. Byrne reportedly told police that he it was taking too long for him to get his food so he started arguing with another person inside of the restaurant. SUNDAY, JULY 29 A 24-year-old man told police that his 40-year-old girlfriend slashed all four of his tires on his 1986 Olds Cutlass sometime between 4 and 9:15 a.m. The boyfriend’s car was parked in a lot on the 9300 block of South Harlem Ave. Police said there were taunting text messages to him from his girlfriend that said, “Have fun walking to work,” and “the hell storm has just begun.” As police were talking to the boyfriend, the girlfriend drove by in her car. Police checked the area with negative results. Suicide Taunt Sparks Dog Park Fight, Police Say

Argument on over dogs leads to battery and criminal damages charges against man accused to grabbing woman's sunglasses after she taunted him about his wife's suicide, police say.

  A verbal argument between dog owners led to battery and criminal damages charges against a 42-year-old man who police said grabbed a woman’s sunglasses off her head and threw them. Oak Lawn police were called to Bailey’s Crossing Dog Park at 9930 S. Melvina Ave. around 8:45 a.m. July 27. According to the report, the woman pushed her dog away from playing with another patron’s dog. The woman and patron were both yelling at each other, when a man identified as Brian T. Cottrell, of Richmond, TX, reportedly stood up and yelled at the woman to control her dog. Police said the woman yelled back and that Cottrell got into the woman’s face. Both were yelling profanities at each other when Cottrell insulted the woman’s family, reports said. …

Fireworks Blow Up Mailboxes, Set Grass on Fire

Homeowners report fireworks mischief and damage during July 4th holiday.

Fireworks blew up two mailboxes to bit and set the parkway gas on fire in three separate incidents that occurred on July 4 and July 5. Oak Lawn police said that a 37-year-old man was sitting in his living room on the 6200 block of 92nd Place when he heard a loud boom around 12:17 a.m. July 4. When the man went outside, he saw a large cloud of smoke and his mailbox blown up. Pieces of the mailbox were found in the immediate area, the largest piece 200 feet away from the 9200 block of Mobile Avenue. The officer said he could smell burnt gunpowder walking around the area. POLICE BLOTTER: Man Swipes Condoms, Herbal Male Enhancement, Pool Destroyed

Oak Lawn police reports June 27 through July 1.

SUNDAY JULY 1 An above ground swimming pool was destroyed on the 9100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue sometime before 7:38 p.m. The homeowner believes that uninvited guests were in the pool, jumping off the sides and causing part of the pool wall to cave in and crack. Police said the pool will cost $5,000 to replace. SATURDAY JUNE 30 A catalytic converter was removed from a 2000 Jeep parked in a driveway on the 9200 block of South Tulley Avenue. Police said that the homeowner heard a strange noise in front of her house between 2 and 3 a.m. When she looked out the window, she observed a man standing near her driveway, but took no action. Oak Lawn Man Tasered After Charging Mom

20-year-old man arrested on multiple charges related to domestic disturbance after mom made his friends leave for drinking in house, police say.

Oak Lawn police arrested a man after shooting him with a Taser while answering a domestic disturbance call on the 9800 block of South Moody Avenue. Sam P. Czernek, 20, of the same Oak Lawn address, was charged with domestic assault, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest. The man’s mother called police at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 18 to report that her son had put a hole in the wall with his head and ran out of the house with a knife, police said. According to the report, the mom heard Czernek arguing with his girlfriend in the basement. When she went downstairs, she discovered her son and his friends drinking alcohol.
