Former Oak Lawn Standout Hansen Powers Carthage Men's Volleyball

Randy Hansen, a former Oak Lawn Community High School standout, recently was named the Sports Imports AVCA Men's Division III National Volleyball Player of the Week.

At Oak Lawn Community High School, he is remembered as the best of the best. At Carthage College, Randy Hansen is crafting a similar legacy through his play on the men's volleyball court. Hansen, a 6-foot senior outside hitter, recently was named the Sports Imports AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He leads Carthage (7-1) in kills (131) and digs (67). He boasts a .403 attack percentage. And none of his accomplishments rate as a surprise to his former coach. "Randy (Hansen) was the best volleyball player I have had the opportunity to coach and that is saying a lot because there have been a lot of outstanding players to come through our program," said former Oak Lawn boys volleyball coach Dennis McNamara in a news release…

Girls Volleyball Photo Gallery: Oak Lawn Unable to Sustain Early Momentum

After starting fast, Oak Lawn fizzled in a 25-18, 25-8 girls volleyball setback to rival Shepard. The play of sophomore Becky Bradshaw was a silver lining for the Spartans.

In a word, Oak Lawn girls volleyball coach Dennis McNamara summed up his feelings. "Frustraiting," he said. Oak Lawn started out strong, then faded in a 25-18, 25-8 loss to Shepard on Thursday night. "We were playing well in the beginning of the season," McNamara said. "We kind of lost something about two weeks ago, just haven’t been able to find our groove. We aren’t playing well right now. We been struggling with our passing. "Becky Bradshaw, our sophomore, was on. She brought her game. She played hard and passed well. With the kills we did get, she was usually behind them." Bradshaw, Christina Egan and Amber Mailberger each had two kills for the Spartans. Olivia Lindner finished with one kill. Jessica Cosenza added seven assists. …

Athlete of the Week: Spartans' Bradshaw is a Volleyball Up-and-Comer

Becky Bradshaw, only a sophomore, already has emerged as one of Oak Lawn volleyball's biggest offensive weapons.

Becky Bradshaw is only a sophomore, but Oak Lawn coach Dennis McNamara thinks she plays like a senior. Bradshaw is Oak Lawn’s starting outside hitter and one of the Spartans’ biggest offensive weapons. She had six kills, including five in the first game, in Oak Lawn’s 27-25, 25-10 loss to defending Class 2A state champion Chicago Christian. The performance not only turned heads, but earned Bradshaw the Patch Athlete of the Week nod for Oak Lawn. Setter Christina Egan often looked for Bradshaw when the Spartans needed a big point. “She’s only a sophomore, so she’s going to be a player in the next couple years here,” McNamara said. “We’re going to refine some things in her passing. As far as a hitter, she works on her shots every day. “She’s…

Girls Volleyball: Chicago Christian Survives Scare From Oak Lawn on Home Floor

Spartans nearly pull off a shocker in first game. But Knights battle back to score a straight-sets victory and run their record to 6-1.

As the defending Class 2A girls state volleyball champions, Chicago Christian often has its way with its opponents from the get-go. So, when Oak Lawn came into the Knights’ home gym and marched out to a 6-2 lead in the first game of Monday night's non-conference matchup, Chicago Christian's girls were a little shocked. Oak Lawn (1-1) played even with the Knights throughout the first game, and even had a game point at 25-24. But Chicago Christian came up with a quick sideout and won the next two points to take the first game 27-25. The Knights' height advantage and athleticism took over in Game 2 as they cruised to a 25-10 victory to beat Oak Lawn in straight sets. “A lot closer than what we thought; we had to play catch-up throughout the …
