The proposed ethics ordinance would prohibit the hiring or appointment of former elected officials for a period of two years after official’s term of office ends, pursuant to state law. Advocate May Swap Service Fee for Senior Wellness Center

Oak Lawn Village Board battles over shift in game plan seeking service fee from Advocate Christ for public coffers to co-venturing with village on senior wellness center at Beaty property.

Oak Lawn Village Board members discussed—ad nauseam—a plan to explore partnering with Advocate Christ Medical Center on a new senior wellness center as part of a re-development plan at the former Beatty Lumber property. The state-of-the-art senior wellness center would be built by Advocate and owned by the village, possibly as an alternative to paying an impact or service fee to the village’s general revenue fund as a cost of doing business in Oak Lawn. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. As a non-profit, the medical center does not pay the village property taxes or other fees, such as building permits. Oak Lawn trustees voted in December 2011 to begin negotiations with Advocate Christ for a service fee to …

Wendy, I agree. We need to build a strong and sustainable econominc engine in the heart of the Village. A senior center won't add to the economy and won't bring in any property tax or sales tax dollars. Also, a Trader Joes is NOT too big for that spot. In keeping with the whole Park Ridge theme, they have a very nice, slightly smaller scale, Trader Joes a newer shopping area that is a short walk …   more ›

Advocate Christ Brings Expansion Plans Back to the Table

Advocate Christ Medical Center officials are ready to pick up where they left off in May with the Oak Lawn Planning and Development Commission to discuss village-ordered impact study of hospital expansion plans.

Advocate Christ Medical Center will go to the mattresses over Phase II of its expansion plans at the Oak Lawn Planning and Development Commission meeting tonight, Monday, at Oak Lawn Village Hall. The medical center wants to add a 9-story inpatient tower to its 95th Street campus on the east side of Kostner Avenue on the site of an existing parking lot. Advocate Christ President Ken Lukhard said the new inpatient tower would increase capacity, including adding 14 new operating rooms. Last year, the hospital turned away between 5,000 and 8,000 patients because there were no available beds. The Oak Lawn Village Board approved plans for a similarly sized outpatient tower in 2011 that is currently under construction with a projected opening …

Water Pressure Takes a Dive in Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn experiences extremely low water pressure on Friday as emergency backup generator is installed at Harker Pumping Station. Normalcy expected to return to system by Saturday morning.

If you experienced dribs and drabs of water dripping out of your faucets yesterday there was a logical explanation. Subscribe to the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Oak Lawn residents and businesses reported extremely low water pressure throughout the village on Friday while an emergency backup generator system was installed at the Harker Pumping Station at 105th Street and Lockwood. Power at Harker was shut off while the portable emergency generators were being installed, causing levels inside of the village’s water towers to fall, thus causing the drop in water pressure. “[On June 30] I met with our engineering team and electrical contractor and informed the village board that I was taking emergency action,” Oak Lawn …

Plan Commission to Advocate Christ: ‘You Didn’t Answer Our Questions’

Oak Lawn Planning and Development Commission stands firm in refusing to give its recommendation to medical center expansion plans until Advocate Christ sufficiently addresses neighborhood concerns.

The Oak Lawn Planning and Development Commission respectfully refused to reopen a public hearing for Advocate Christ because the hospital’s management team did not sufficiently answer the village’s questions on a proposed 9-story patient tower. Subscribe to the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Advocate Christ Medical Center and Oak Lawn planning commissions had agreed last month that the village would submit questions on specific aspects of the medical center’s planned expansion. The hospital management team skipped the last PDC meeting saying it needed more time to respond to the village’s questions. PDC chair Steve Radice said that the only reason the commission agreed to submiting questions in the first place was …
