Mail Stolen on Austin Avenue

Victim said big black sedan stalked his mail.

A 68-year-old man who lives on the 9000 block of South Austin Avenue reported that his mail was stolen on May 20. The man told police he had just put some bills in his mailbox when he noticed a big black sedan with tinted windows pull up next to his mailbox around 9:30 a.m. He became concerned and went to check to make sure his bills were still in the mailbox. The bills were still inside, so he went back into the house. About 20 minutes later, the man saw the black sedan pull up next to his mailbox again. This time when the resident checked the mailbox, the bills were gone. The man said the mail carrier hadn’t picked up the mail and he believes that whoever was in the black sedan stole the contents of the mailbox. Police notified the U.S. …

Kmart Blue Light Fight Special

Man tussles with employees, admits to taking tools to give to a guy to sell at the Alsip Swap-O-Rama, police say.

Oak Lawn police were dispatched to the Kmart at 11000 S. Cicero Ave. in response to a call of a man fighting with employees in front of the store, reports said. Terrence Harris, 40, of the 14300 block of Wallace in Harvey, was charged with one count of retail theft, one count of assault and three counts of battery on April 28. Police rolled up to find employees holding Harvey on the ground until he could be taken into custody. A loss prevention officer reported that he observed Harris strolling through the tool aisle at Kmart and looking all around before concealing nine tools in his jacket at about 12:35 p.m. The loss prevention officer watched Harris walk past the register and leave the store, before moving in to confront Harris. Someone walked into the restroom at Lambton’s Auto, 4808 W. 96th Pl., and smashed the bathroom sink to pieces, according to a police report. The owner reported the damaged sink to police at 9 a.m. There was no damage to the toilet, and a snow blower that was stored in the john was untouched. Over the summer, a handyman worked for the service station when he felt like it and did shoddy work, the owner told police. The handyman was let go but keeps calling the owner asking for work. The owner and another mechanic think the handyman is responsible. A husband and wife were enjoying a nice dinner at TGIF, 5420 W. 95th St., until they discovered that someone had smashed the window on their car around 8:30 p.m. The thief grabbed the wife’s purse …

Woman Doesn't Like Butt Comment

Coal City woman charged with aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon and disorderly conduct following disturbance at local bar.

Oak Lawn police found a woman allegedly holding an expandable baton when they responded to a disturbance call in the rear parking lot of the Hot Corner Bar, 4913 W. 95th St., in the early-morning hours of Jan. 15. Patricia Yodka, 35, of Coal City, Ill., was charged with aggravated assault when she took offense to a comment made by a bar patron, police said. According to a village police report, Yodka told cops that a patron commented on her “butt,” and the two began arguing. Yodka’s boyfriend walked out of the bar to Yodka’s car. Yodka and her boyfriend began arguing, and Yodka’s boyfriend told police that she threw him against the car. Police Blotter: Alert Shopper Stops Theft; Tires Slashed

A shopper who wished to remain anonymous was in the Salvation Army store at 8732 S. Cicero Ave. when she saw a couple try to steal another woman’s purse, according to an Oak Lawn police report. The shopper told police that a man approached the victim and engaged her in conversation, while his female companion lifted up clothing that was in the victim’s cart and tried to remove the victim’s purse. After shouting at the female, the would-be thief turned around and began cursing the shopper, police said. The shopper alerted the store manager and pointed out the couple. By the time police arrived, the victim had already left the store. Police Charge Maywood Man in Church Break-In

K-9 units assist in search of man police say broke into a church looking for warm place to sleep.

K-9 units tracked down a man who was found hiding behind a bush after he had broken into a church, according to police. Frank Anthony Roth, 46, of the 2100 block of South 25th Avenue in Maywood, was charged with criminal trespassing. Oak Lawn police responded to a break-in at Oak Lawn Community Church, 9000 S. Ridgeland Ave., just before midnight on Jan. 7, according to a village police report. Police found a broken window and a set of footprints in the snow leading away from the church. K-9 units were called to assist after police found a hammer propping open a door and a broken knife blade by the window. The dogs searched the neighborhood, tracking the footprints through numerous yards and locating a pair of gloves several blocks away. …

Burglar Leaves Blood Trail Through Church

Burglar breaks into church but apparently takes only food.

A burglar left a blood trail after breaking into Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ, 9411 S. 51st St., sometime before 2:30 p.m. Jan. 8. Police said the burglar broke a window and roamed the building, damaging several doors and locks while attempting to enter different rooms and offices within the building. The burglar eventually broke into a PADS supply closet and medicine chest. Nothing appeared to have been stolen except for some food from the kitchen area. Police believe the burglar cut his hand because there was blood on numerous doors and doorknobs, the refrigerator and elsewhere in the kitchen.

Man Solicits Teen at White Castle

Village police search for man who attempted to solicit underage male at local fast food restaurant.

A physically fit man with a ponytail attempted to pick up a 16-year-old boy at the White Castle, at 9501 S. Cicero Ave., the evening of Jan. 7. Oak Lawn police were called to the restaurant where they were met by the teen and his friend. According to the victim, he and his friend were inside the restaurant when they saw a man lift up his shirt and show them his ribs. The boys told police they didn’t know the man. The man walked over and introduced himself, then walked outside the restaurant, according to the report. While the boys were at their table, the man stared at the victim through the window and motioned with his head toward the bathroom. Police Blotter: More Car Lot Thefts, Vandalism and Bad Behavior at a Local Tavern

Oak Lawn Police Reports, Oct. 21-Oct. 28

Someone ripped off the wheels from a Toyota Camry at the Oak Lawn Toyota car lot, 4320 W. 95th St., sometime before 1:46 a.m., police said. The wheels were valued at $850. A 44-year-old woman returned to her home on the 9700 block of South 49th Avenue around 3:50 p.m. and discovered various electronic gadgets and video games missing. The victim told police she locked all the doors, including the basement door, before leaving her house. Police discovered damage around the basement door where the burglar made entry. Gone were a laptop computer and charger, computer carrying case, video games and game system with a total value of $680, and $200 cash.  The victim said she suspected her ex-husband because he was mad that she got the house and …
