Bank Honors Police for Catching Bank Robbery Suspect

Bank of America lays some well-deserved commendations on Oak Lawn Police and South Suburban Emergency Response Team apprehending bank robbery suspect after 11-hour standoff.

The Oak Lawn Police Department and South Suburban Emergency Response Team were honored for their roles in apprehending a bank robbery suspect on June 2. The robbery occurred shortly after the Bank of America branch at 111th Street and Pulaski Road closed at 2:15 p.m. on a Saturday. It ended eleven hours later when police officers found the suspect—Charles B. Estell—wedged in an air duct. Pat O’Mara, senior vice president for Bank of America’s Security Group stopped by the Oak Lawn Village Board last Tuesday to drop off come plaques honoring the officers. Bound and Gagged, Bank Employee Dialed 911 With Her Feet

Federal criminal complaint filed against man accused of robbing an Oak Lawn bank on Saturday recounts terrifying takeover robbery.

At the end of a busy Saturday, two employees at the Bank of America branch were finishing up their day by counting the proceeds inside the vault, unaware that someone was watching them from above through an opening in the roof. Within moments, a lone black male carrying a large gun entered the vault and ordered the employees—both women—to the floor. Thus began a takeover robbery that ended with both employees bound and gagged by the bandit, and a manhunt that would not end until early the next morning. Oak Lawn Bank Robbery Suspect Charged in Federal Court

Police said a man connected to Saturday's robbery of the Bank of America branch in Oak Lawn has been charged with one count of robbery. Bank employees say they heard what sounded like the robber talking to another person outside the bank on a cell phone.

Criminal charges were filed against a Chicago man in connection with Saturday’s take-over robbery of the Bank of America branch at 4606 W. 111th St. SIGN UP for Oak Lawn Patch breaking news alerts. Charles B. Estell, 38, was charged with one count of bank robbery in federal court on Sunday morning. Estell was found stuck in an air duct after he apparently hid in the ceiling of a shopping center, Oak Lawn police said. It was quite the scene on Saturday afternoon, with SWAT teams and police snipers poised on roofs after a man robbed the Bank of America at 111th Street and Pulaski Road. Read about the standoff as it unfolded on O-L Patch's Facebook page. Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Mike Kaufmann said the suspected robber entered the bank through a hole on the roof after the bank had closed earlier in the afternoon. UPDATE: Police and FBI Continue Ceiling Search for Bank Robbery Suspect - LAST UPDATE

Police believe bank robbery suspect is still in the building.

Update 12:20 a.m. Here is our last update on Saturday's bank robbery. More than 60 law enforcement officers, including Oak Lawn Police, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, FBI and Cook County Sheriff's Police remain at the Bank of America shopping center as of midnight. Oak Lawn Division Chief Mike Kaufmann said police still believe the bank robbery suspect, described as a male black in his 20s, is holed up in the ceiling. There is no further information. If there is an update later this morning, Kaufmann said that a press release will be sent out today. UPDATE: Local Cops, FBI Lead Manhunt for Armed Robber in Oak Lawn

A police perimeter has been set up around a Bank of America branch in Oak Lawn, where police said a robbery occurred this afternoon.

Updated 8:37 p.m. FBI and South Suburban Crime Reponse are searching the air conditioning ducts because blood was found earlier in the upstairs, Oak Lawn Division Chief Kaufmann said. Police are using remote control cameras to search inside the ducts. Two teams are searching; one FBI and one South Suburban Crime Response are doing the search. "They are still methodically looking, it's going to take time," Kaufmann said. Reports that police heard barricading are inaccurate. Kaufmann also would not confirm if the robber was armed with a TEC 9 gun. He said the robber was armed with an automatic handgun. FBI Joins Manhunt for Missing Groom in Burbank Bride Slaying

The FBI has joined an international manhunt for a missing bridegroom after his new wife was found slain in their Burbank apartment hours after they were married last weekend. A federal warrant charging Arnoldo Jiminez, 30, with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued Thursday in U.S. District Court in Chicago. Jiminez was charged earlier this week in Cook County Criminal Court with one count of first- degree murder for the stabbing death of his 26-year-old wife, Estrella Carrera.
